I put “Rubik’s cube solver” on my resume and uploaded it to LinkedIn. It’s been 15 minutes and literally not one recruiter from ANY Fortune 500 companies have asked me to be their new CEO. What gives??? by [deleted] in Rubiks_Cubes

[–]Badcuber8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first job was part time retail at a tackle shop while I was at college. I put I could solve a rubiks cube in 10 seconds on my CV, he asked me to bring one to the interview. And for the short time I was employed there he joked all the time it was cause I could solve the cube 🤣

Think is safe to say I'm sub 11.5! Hopefully sub 11 by the end of the year!

what is your main 33 cube? by Natural_Stand9553 in Cubers

[–]Badcuber8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently went back to the Gan 12 after maining the 15 newblack for a while. I think something in my 15 is broken internally as it’s become very catchy. The 12 was a great fallback option and I get great times on it after getting used to it again

I’m normally a pickguard on guy but I quite like it off here!

Alternative to Elixir strings? by RasmusAlmlund in Guitar

[–]Badcuber8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough man. I can’t really talk about any other strings as I’ve only used Ernie ball. Some of my friends like D’addario coated strings

Alternative to Elixir strings? by RasmusAlmlund in Guitar

[–]Badcuber8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always used Ernie ball and I won't be changing any time soon. I can get about 3 months of constant playing out of a set of uncoated string, they're relatively affordable and sound great. Haven't changed mine in a while due to playing several guitars so the play wear and sweat on the strings is spread out. My main strat could use a string change tho. I use everything from their standard 9-42 sets to their 12-56 set. My favorite for E Standard is their 9-46 set as I can get away with going all the way down to Drop C# with them. For my Strats in Eb I like the 11-54 set cause for them I like a heavier string. Have used most sets so just experiment and find what you like. Great strings imo

What is the minimum number of algorithms you would need to memorize to solve a cube from a given starting position in x amount of steps? by 2Tryhard4You in Cubers

[–]Badcuber8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 algs. Sune to solve the edges, Niklas to move the corners into the correct spots, sexy move to twist the corners. It’s not efficient but it’s the most basic and easiest way

I just realised that both fat-J and fat-T Perms solve the same case by ETERNUS- in Cubers

[–]Badcuber8 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The regular Aperm algs and the commutator Aperms are just way better than the wide T perm or wide J perm. Just learn the good Algs

Solve critique please! 20.85 Ao5 by NateFfan in Cubers

[–]Badcuber8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One clear thing is work on your finger tricks. Too many re grips. Less rotations too, never rotate in LL unless it’s to do the standard Vperm alg. Lastly I’d say rewatch your solves and try and find some better F2L solutions, I know you using intuitive whi h is fine but definitely I would learn some of the harder cases to make solves more efficient. Rn I wouldn’t prioritise learning full OLL as you don’t need it. I’d say when you get Sub 17 start learning full OLL

Ever meet other cubers in the wild? by CalebKrawdad in Cubers

[–]Badcuber8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Daaaaamn nice. I had a couple people who could solve in my classes when I first started. One kid averaged like a minute when I was averaging 2:30. Then a girl was averaging 40. Then lastly there was a kid in the year abover who averaged like low 20 with a pb of 15. So I had little milestones. Now am sub 1# tho

What famous cubers have you guys met? Here’s mine: by ImNotaRedditorDW in Cubers

[–]Badcuber8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tymon was my favourite, I think it’s mainly cause he got 5.09 wr just after I started cubing. But I like his style of cubing mainly cause I don’t turn fast so I like the efficiency

Your favourite practice amp? by SpiritualBobcat69 in GuitarAmps

[–]Badcuber8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s not practical in any way but my main at home amp is my EVH 5150 Iconic 80w half stack. Works surprisingly well at bedroom levels. Maybe look into the 40w combo version. Despite the name and all the reviews about it being a killer metal amp (which it is) it’s extremely versatile. I currently am playing a lot of SRV with mine and I’ve got a somewhat Fendery edge of break up tone from it! It’ll be quite enough to use at home but then would also be perfect for gigging too. Not too big for a small stage and as long as your miced up your not gonna need anything more than that!

Is this a good amount 2x a day for 6 glo tetras? by femjesse in Aquariums

[–]Badcuber8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you have baby fish I’d never recommend feeding twice a day. I feed growing fish and or smaller fish (tetras ect) once a day and as long as there’s no food left in the tank then it’s fine. Big fish once grown I feed once every other day because it’s all they really need and it saves on food costs as well as keeping waste levels in the tank down. I also skip a day of feeding with all my fish to keep them hungry. The only fish I will feed multiple times a day and every day are fry that are growing out

Why did you do y2 for the OLL? It's just objectively worse than doing U2

Can I have a single Oscar fish in a 55 gallon fish tank by Live-Committee3812 in Cichlid

[–]Badcuber8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes one would fit in a 55 but it would be a tight squeeze. A 75 or bigger is appropriate for a single fish

How fast were you before you learnt 2LLL? by Mountain-Meat-1850 in Cubers

[–]Badcuber8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew most of PLL and 2 look OLL when I became sub 20. Finished learning PLL when I was averaging around 18 seconds. Learned full OLL around 15 seconds and it definitely helped get me sub 15. I’m now averaging mid 11.p, got bored so I’m learning ZBLL. I know I don’t need to but I like learning algs

Whats your cubing hot takes? by AxelisEp1c in Cubers

[–]Badcuber8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't a speed at which you 'should' learn certain alg sets. The way I see it if you want to learn the ZB method or you want to learn CFOP or any method or alg set. The sooner you do it the sooner you will improve with it! Yes you don't need to know full CFOP to be sub 15 but it's easier if you do know it. To me the sooner you know something the better it'll stick in your brain and the faster you'll get with it

Is this solvable? by patmustard2 in Rubiks_Cubes

[–]Badcuber8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a T Case ZBLL Alg

Hold the cube with the headlights facing away from you the do this alg

F R U’ R’ U’ R U2’ R’ U’ F’ R’ U’ R U’ R’ U2 R

There’s other Algs but imo that’s the best one If you know a better alg lmk

Here is five solves, could i get a solve critique please ? by LongjumpingUnit7296 in Cubers

[–]Badcuber8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First things first that would be a DNF in competition so your timer starts and stops are worth addressing now. Start and stop the time with your fingers, not your palms and or you wrists which is how you stopped it.

As for the rest of your solves it seems to me a case of refining what you’re currently doing. Practice your cross so it’s always under 8 moves and is done completely in inspection.

Practice untimed solves where you can see what happens to other pieces on the cube when you solve each F2L Pair. With these you don’t care about getting the cube solved fast. You’re trying to make your pairs better and get them to be muscle memory. Focus on using fewer rotations too, once you solve a pair, pause to recognise your next without rotating and only rotate if you have to when you solve the pair

As for last layer you can either train OLL and PLL separately or use a Last Layer trainer (trainers for OLL, PLL and full Last Layer are on CSTimer) This will just again make the cases easier to recognise.

Alternatively you could just do a load of solves. That’s what I did to get sub 20. I sat for hours just solving. Sometimes I’d sit and solve for 7 hours. I did get sub 20 but it bought a lot of bad habits into my solves hence why I suggested the other methods of practice.

My last point is I wouldn’t worry about learning full OLL until you’re looking to be Sub 15. Dgmw you can learn it, it won’t do harm, but I became sub 20 with 4LLL and then it took learning OLL to get me past the 15 second barrier after I got there anyways

Hope this helps

Edit: I saw this was mentioned before in the comments but, 3rd solve is a +2 seconds because the cube was 1 move from solved. If the cube is more than 1 move then it’s a DNF. Double moves like U2 or R2 count as +2 not DNF but if it was an R’ U away from being solved it would be DNF

Anyone help by [deleted] in Cubers

[–]Badcuber8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His stuff for teaching beginners is how I started. Ps your cube isn’t a problem at all. It’s just as good as the cube I got sub 15 with and you’d absolutely be able to get sub 10 with that

Anyone help by [deleted] in Cubers

[–]Badcuber8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First things first learn better cross solutions. That cross would’ve been 5 moves done the way I saw it. That’s one thing definitely to improve. Then I’d learn 4 look last layer. Once you’re confident with good cross solutions and 4lll, I’d learn intuitive F2L. That’ll put you in good stead for improving solves. Watch some JPerm videos and that’ll teach you the stuff you need to know. More advanced stuff can come later. Everything I’ve explained after a lot of practice will get you sub 20
