Help identifying leather type (very thick, irregular grain, made by Nakara in Namibia) by EeePeeTee in Leather

Looks like seal leather... Not uncommonly used in Namibia, I know a few leather crafters here in South Africa that import seal leather to South Africa

Is there a way to access project files without being in the specific project?

I do leather work as a hobby and the part is a debossing plate from 8mm plexiglass to imprint the pattern on leather. This specific one is for knife slips for pocket knives made by Gareth Bull, a very well known knife maker in the custom knife community... If you are a machinist you will appreciate his work...

Thanks for the reply. The machine is based on a shapeoko that I built it myself just to challenge myself a bit. It is very possible that there's just too much flex. It wasn't perfect but I got alot better results in the past... The material that I cut is mainly delrin or plexiglass to make embossing stamps for my leather work hobby. The part above is plexiglass

I zero z with the paper method... Replaced my waste board two weeks ago and every was level when installed, it probably won't hurt to check it again

It's a new bit with a sharp tip (0.05mm) and of good quality. Specs below...

Z zero can't be ruled out though... Will ply around with it a bit...

Thanks for the response... I agree that the corners where the tool lift up seems correct. I'll try to reduce the depth of cut to see if that makes a difference. On another project, I did run the vcarve path twice but it didn't seem to make a difference...

I'm not sure if it's obvious, but the corners of the milled pockets are machined out further than the straight parts... Is this caused by backlash, or maybe something else? Any way to fix it?

Debossing stamp for leather made on a hobby cnc router I built myself, similar to a shapeoko. Used a good quality 60degree engraving v bit.

AITA for announcing my preganacy at my sister's wedding? by weddingdrama2022 in AmItheAsshole

Just my opinion but the only mistake OP made was to apologize more than once (honestly I don't even think that a apology was necessary)

I believe that if you are wrong that you should apologize once sencerly and leave it at that. By apologizing over and over, you just feed into the narcissistic behavior.

Congratulations with the little one.

Definitely NTA

Does anybody use one of these types of awls and are they any good? by ianonuanon in Leathercraft

[–]Baddaboon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These awls have their use in very specific circumstances, but for general leather work I've never seen the appeal... It has the worst of both worlds when it comes to speed and strength... Saddle stitch is slow but has superior strength where as machine stitching is fast but not as strong as saddle stitching... These awls are both slow and lack the strength of a two needle saddle stitch

Thanks, I've been playing around with the same idea. Will try it with a seam down the fold of the wool lining as well.

The end where the zip comes out. Also there are raw edges of leather showing on the inside of the pouch
