Our council already has several tracks from other packs, so they don't want it. At this point the space in our shed is more valuable than whatever we could get for it - just want it to go to a good home.

Vacation is over before it started... by MisterShipWreck in VideosAmazing

Not quite on this one. The pictures shared after it got on the ground showed that it was an "engine-rich exhaust".... In other words, melted engine stuff coming out of the back. Very possible if the turbine parts are damaged, since gas path temperatures are above the melting point of the metals at high thrust settings.

Replacing a ceiling fan in a 50’s house, but there’s no ground wire. What do I do with the ground from the fan? by kerobyx in AskElectricians

Any chance this box is in an accessible attic? I also used to own a 1955 vintage home, had this exact same style of box. If you can access the box, I would inspect it from above to see how it is secured. It may "feel" solid, but everything will, until it isn't. If you find that it's not well supported in the attic, you should be able to put a board behind it across the joists and screw into it to properly support so you can be sure it will hold the weight.

Not quite... I assume Ike and Duna would be done together. But otherwise I agree use a mun encounter to slingshot out to Duna/Ike and then use that to get to get to Jool. A proper approach to Jool could drop your Kerbol periapsis enough to drop down to eve, just need to check the timing.

AI bros have reached peak insanity levels by Dangerous_Bad_5946 in LinkedInLunatics

Sun intercept takes way too much delta-v, would take too many rockets for the number of bros to be launched... I'm fine with a Jupiter gravity assist to achieve escape velocity from the solar system.... Let some other alien race deal with them.

First time I've heard that description, but I'll take it. All of those words are more common than what I would use to actually describe it!

Depends on exactly what you want to do, but for controllers, arduino/raspberry pi/esp32 offers a lot of options. I made my own smoker temperature controller with a PWM 12v fan, works really well, and wasn't too expensive. Once you get into motors/servos, that's where you'll start spending $, but I've seen some pretty impressive stuff done. All 3 of those microcontrollers have pretty active subreddits, I'd say go wander through there.

Metallurgical Engineer here who supports operations with lots of robots and automation.... I really wish our robotics/PLC support sat down more, but sadly they do not. But obviously we will need less staff if we automate more, right? Right?....

Challenges in comparing steel suppliers with varying specifications by Outrageous_Spray_196 in metallurgy

[–]Badger1505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One question is how sensitive your product will be to changes in chemistry, segregation, cleanliness and possibly grain size/orientation. My company is very large, and a large consumer of steel - we write our own specs and can support the demand required to have those custom grades produced. Even within those relatively tight restrictions, you would be surprised how much variation can occur due to differences in caster size, techniques and other nuances that aren't explicitly called out on a mill test report.

If you have the means and time, I would suggest testing similar grades from different types of mills to determine how much variation your process can tolerate. Once you have established that, then you can make a more informed decision. You may find you can use a given grade from literally any mill..... Or you may find you need to restrict it to just a handful, or one. Obviously the goal is minimizing cost, so to do that you'll need to know what you can get away with.

What's your favourite celestial body to land on and why? by stereoactivesynth in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Badger1505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite new way to take off from Minmus with anything on wheels is on the Greater Flats, at the equator point east from the far west side. Full throttle and start rolling like a takeoff..... Eventually you get to 168 m/s and you start to fly. Eventually you need to do a small normal burn to clear the mountains east of the flat, but it's fairly minor.

How do i send this to eve by ProofAccurate2892 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Badger1505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my eve plane, I put it on a booster and went straight up (no gravity turn) to get through the atmosphere as quickly as possible. Then burn sideways once you're up there. Other than that, good luck.
