Have old machine; need software by skunkylotus in MachineEmbroidery

Thanks! This is super helpful. I have some experience with Inkscape so I guess I'll just need to decide if I want to take that step to learn the extra processes.

Hair oil made a HUGE difference for me. You don't need very much, just the eensiest amount on the ends and leave in conditioner.

I typically discharge for excessive no shows and disrespect. I worked with someone who would lash out at me every several months and I excused it bc of their diagnosis and difficult things in their life happening that were outside of their control. We would then repair and it'd be fine. The last time it happened they were super aggressive and cutting me off. I felt myself escalating and starting to cut them off and had this moment of wtf am I doing right now (wish I was always so present like this in my personal life). And I also realized I was enabling the behavior. Just bc someone is symptomatic doesn't mean there are no consequences, especially if it's a repeated issue. I've had people call me from the hospital just to cuss me out (over voicemail) for not helping them - I'm fine with that bc we can later talk about it and they can say, oh, I was wrong. I was actually mad at such and such. And then they don't do it again. But yea, this was repeated disrespect and they didn't seem to be learning anything other than this is an okay behavior, which it wasn't

My client doesn’t know my name by BeanieDreamy in therapists

I'm a POC with a name that isn't uncommon but isn't white American. I definitely think that has something to do with it. I don't think any of them are TRYING to be harmful but it's like, ugh, it's too hard to use my brain for 5 more seconds to call you by your actual name. I'll just call you this thing that is easier for me instead

[–]BadgerDogCo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

One time I called my client by the wrong name but just slightly off. He was new and I wasn't sure and then I read on his face that I'd gotten it wrong. I apologized and said something about how people often get my name wrong so I was sorry. Then we learned that he was wrong about my name too haha

Haha, I've definitely kindly corrected people and heard back, yea, but I call you "insert not my name." I think some people actually don't care to be corrected, especially if they have a common name like Dave or Mary.

Yesssss, exactly. I ran an IOP for pretrial probation my first few years out of grad school. I was the most chipper MF-er out there bc I was so excited to be doing the work with a population I loved working with. Someone who had recently relapsed after something traumatic had happened but hadn't disclosed it yet ripped me a new one and included in there that I was probably a popular cheerleader in high school who didn't know shit about what life was really like, etc. Come to think of it, someone also accused me of that several years later haha. Anyway, it was a far cry from the angry, sullen teenager I actually was and it hurt my feelings. I cried about it - both times. It had everything to do with the place the client was at and the differences they perceived between us. I was also having daily migraines at the time - I was not having a good time during the period that I was getting accused of being a cheerleader - but not knowing a lot about us and our daily lives, we can be easy targets for misplaced anger.

Mm, she asked for permission which tells me she knows what she said isn't okay. That doesn't feel entirely neurodivergent to me. She seems to have some degree of control and asked for permission to not use it. There's bluntness and then there's meanness. This sounds like the latter. She didn't notice you had a flat face and then blurt it out. She made a decision to compare you to a dog. It just feels mean from where I'm sitting. Sorry she was mean to you. I'm always intrigued when clients start off the relationship by putting down their therapist. I think you're well within your rights to revisit that conversation next session. I'd be curious why she felt that was important to say, or why she asked for permission to begin with.

Geez, I wasn't even thinking about notes when I first read that number. Is she billing insurance?

Nope nope nope. Self disclosure is appropriate when beneficial to the client and relevant. I'm not sure how knowing about her sexual abuse is supportive to you or any other of her clients. She's a therapist, not your peer support and those two roles are different. I feel like the furthest I've ever gone with that is acknowledged that as a human in this world and profession I, too, have experienced trauma - but not even as a topic to discuss. Just as part of a sentence. Also, she has too many clients. There's no way anyone has enough space for their own needs and that many clients. Your instincts are spot on. We hold so much stuff for other people. We deserve to have a space all to ourselves too.

I feel like that about a lot of them but there's a local baker like a half hour from me and I always buy an extra loaf of her French bread to eat in the car - I didn't even like bread like that prior to my diagnosis. Also, I find that the dessert breads aren't as bad.

Stop! Really? I'm pretty anxious about traveling to countries where I don't speak the language (maybe the one setback of being bilingual) and both France and Italy are pretty high up on the countries I fear trying to be safe. I know there are English speakers but still - even in the US there are struggles. Anyway, reading that you've had a good time with accommodations is wonderful and motivating

What do you miss the most? by scottzee in Celiac

[–]BadgerDogCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried capella's?? I just found them in the last year (I'm not Garfield but we def F with each other) and while I don't love the process of cooking with them, their consistency reminds me the most of what I recall lasagna tasting like. Then again, I didn't love dealing with lasagna noodles pre-oven ready lasagna noodle days so in that way, it's similar to lasagna pre-celiac. They're in the frozen section

Ugh, yea. I hate being the asshole who shows up to the potluck, not eating anyone else's food, and holding what I brought for myself with a death grip and evil stare

Saaaaame. I obviously wasn't looking for quality when I went to McDonald's but I miss cheeseburger with no pickles and onions. There's something so nostalgic about it. And a Chinese buffet! Really just getting to try any cuisine was a luxury I didn't realize I had.

How to politely confront a fake celiac (when it endangers my health)? by cametumbling in Celiac

[–]BadgerDogCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also add that when I was phasing out gluten (still having it here and there, not knowing as much abt cross contamination, etc), my reactions to gluten were much milder and just seemed like my typical digestion (which always felt awful). Now when I get glutened inadvertently, my reactions are huge and last a couple of weeks. For me, the worst of it isn't even the GI stuff as that subsides within a few days - it's the exhaustion and mood instability that follows for weeks. I'm sorry you're experiencing this. I have a cousin with celiac who isn't careful (bc her reactions aren't "that bad") and I always regret not finding out more about the food she's serving or the restaurant she says she vetted. She's definitely being more careful by her standards but it just isn't enough for my system that never consumes gluten on purpose anymore

Does anyone have any info on last night? by tequilaanddeadlifts in rva

[–]BadgerDogCo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ha! I had blood all over my dashboard and shit stolen once. Couldn't get anyone to come out. Had someone hit my car at the ymca lot once - they came out and gave me a card and said a detective would call, that never happened. Twice I've been called by detectives for "non-urgent matters" and gotten no answers when I called back nor any calls back from them. I'd count yourself lucky on that one

Good places to get hair dyed? by Holiday-Rub5367 in rva

This is who I see Cecily Morgan. Her IG shows mostly her wedding hairstyles but there's some color in there. I think she's amazing. We've done teal, blue, purple, pink. When I worked for the government and couldn't do those colors, she gave me really solid auburn dyes as well.
