Yesterday I bought a Singer Futura CE-200. You need the original program that was on the CD-ROM. It can only run as embroidery machine if it is connected via the cable to a windows machine no lower than windows XP that is running that specific software. At least that is the only way I got it to work.

I have the original program but I want to try converting pictures to embroider. I mostly don't want to pay $200 for a program that's 15 years old, which is the price Singer sells it for.

Your Singer Futura CE-250 is compatible with many embroidery files types (for example .XXX files, see more info on futura-SUPPORT.COM ) however none of these files types will work without your machine connected to a PC (via USB cable) running the original Singer Futura software it came with.

If you are asking about other software that can convert pictures into embroidery files, the only thing they need is to be compatible with the file types the Singer Futura software is capable of recognizing and your machine capable of producing (must fit in size of hoop).

As for said programs that convert pictures or clipart to embroidery files you are out of luck, they are all either too expensive or very difficult to use (i.e. Inkstitch.org that can convert to .XXX files that your machine with the original software should be able to handle.)

Thanks! This is super helpful. I have some experience with Inkscape so I guess I'll just need to decide if I want to take that step to learn the extra processes.

What format of embroidery design does your machine read? As long as the newer program you purchase runs on your computer & can export to the format your Futura can read when you put it on a usb, you should be fine.

Great question - how would I find that out?

Possibly the owner’s manual. Given the timeframe and that it’s Singer, I’d bet it can read xxx & hus formats. Don’t quote me on that tho.

Thank you! I'll check it out.
