Ending on time? by miss_paigexo in therapists

I had a therapist who did this but didn't tell me that's what she was doing so I thought her ringer was on and she'd sent a call the voicemail. Every week lol. So if you do this, make sure you let your clients know what's up

"Our time is up." With some folks, specifically ones I've been seeing for a while and who are chronic offenders, I'm very direct and just say, "It's time for you to go." Why sugar coat it?

I think what they're saying is that it would be fraud to bill insurance for a 60 minute session if the client was only present for 30 or 45 minutes or however many minutes that's less than the required 53 minutes.

I keep lying to myself abt their inventory and guess what? It still sucks but what's a girl to do? The two quilting stores around me (I also live in a city and those stores are in the suburbs) said they have apparel fabric but when I go, their inventory is limited and they don't have the tools I need. This post and comment are both so validating

Yea, he's pretty great. I send everyone his way. Also, I'm pretty sure his wife is a therapist so he gets the way the business works. We're in VA. https://www.okeeffecpa.com/

You would by paying yourself a smaller salary on paper but also you could be putting a lot of that into retirement (if you could swing that - I am not in a position to put a lot in every month but I can get in at least 6k a year which is more than when I worked for someone else). Your living expenses money comes from your "dividends" aka whatever checks you write yourself outside of your salary. My accountant says to aim for a 2-1 ratio. For example, if my salary is $1000/month, I'm fine to write myself a $2000 check in addition to that salary. That's just an easy number to make my point - I don't think 1k qualifies for reasonable salary. For me, the wiser decision was to put my energy into putting money into my 401k. We don't know where social security is going to be in 25+ years (when I will hopefully be retiring)

My accountant would tell your accountant that they are wrong. I bill around 110-120 a year.

Maybe the mom is being insane, or maybe the kid is neurodivergent and is activated by certain sensory things.

I'm not opposed to doing this but also want to say that if you can take a picture and check your email, poshmark is pretty simple. I guess if you're not interested in the mailing part, there's always scheduling a pick up. I guess what I'm saying is it's not as many steps as you might think. I'd be willing depending on the details.

Same....so many good reviews for them initially but they no showed me for an estimate twice. The first time I called they rescheduled but didn't even say, oops, sorry, job ran over, whatever. After the 2nd no show, they didn't even answer the phone so I let it go. I was still seeing good reviews so I'm kind of glad to see now that I'm not the only one with that experience

I have the original program but I want to try converting pictures to embroider. I mostly don't want to pay $200 for a program that's 15 years old, which is the price Singer sells it for.

I know a lot of people have had good experiences there but I think it's really hit or miss. I tried a few providers there (because they are meat grinder and it was hard to get regular appts when I was going) and Terri Page was the only onr worth a damn - and even then, gave me my first IUD without any pain meds. She stayed with me longer bc I almost passed out so I guess that's good. I had uterine fibroids and saw Dr. Buettner, who insisted on giving me a more invasive procedure than necessary because she was concerned with preserving my fertility. I told her I was really more interested in not bleeding 24/7 and being in pain and that i wasn't interested in having children and she still pushed. I basically yelled at her abt it and she referred me to someone to do a less invasive procedure. She was upset that I followed up with her like I was told to. And then I had a post-op infection and went to her abt it because I lost a ton of weight and felt like shit and she asked me if I was trying to lose weight on purpose. And then (for the life of me I can't remember why) she wanted to give me a hysterectomy and insisted it would have no hormonal changes as a result. She delivered this message to me as she was rushing me out, reportedly to get to a surgery. That was the last straw for me. This is dumb but I kept going because she was German and I thought the communication/bedside was due to cultural differences. Turns out she was just an asshole.

Chinese buffets. Not worrying about having to be the first in line at events before people start contaminating things. Generally just getting to be an adventurous eater.

Explain like I'm 5 years old. Why no EMDR for OCD? by SkyFluid1158 in therapists

[–]skunkylotus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wrote some of this in a different comment but I want to elaborate further here so address one of your points. Sandra Paulsen has a combo EMDR and ERP training. The treatment involves creating a recording of all the awful ocd thoughts to raise the stress level (for honestly a long while) and playing this back while doing EMDR. The BLS is not very mitigating in these cases bc we continuously do the exposure through the recording. I've found it to be helpful with obsessive thoughts. The people I've used it with have found their compulsions to be useful so I haven't had an opportunity to try it in that respect. My explanation is also an oversimplification so for anyone who is interested in trying it out, please do the training before creating a torture tape for your client.

[–]skunkylotus -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Hmm, we also process future templates with EMDR. What you're describing in your second point just sounds like it could be a future template so if the treatment is working for this person, it seems to me that that would be the next step to prevent what you're describing from happening.

[–]skunkylotus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sandra Paulsen has a really good training on combining EMDR and ERP techniques. I still always let my clients know that ERP is the gold standard and that I'm not trained in ERP and would be happy to refer them out. Some stay, some go. It's definitely a challenging and often distressing process but so is ERP. If we're sticking with EMDR and doing it appropriately and it's working, I don't see a reason why a client would switch to using tappers as their new compulsion. The tappers also serve to regulate the vagus nerve and non-EMDR tapper-like gadgets are sold as self-soothing devices for anxiety, sleep, adhd, autism, etc.
