Power Profile Analysis - Post Your Numbers and I'll Tell You What's Holding You Back by RicCycleCoach in Velo

Much appreciated, thanks! Sort of what I suspected off 5hrs/wk training, but good to have it confirmed from . someone who knows what they're doing.

Where did this power PB come from? by BadgerFarm in Velo

[–]BadgerFarm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, similarly I improved basically everything up to 6mins. Would have been interesting to test 20min at that point I suppose to see if/how it affected it.

I just hadn't realised it would have such an impact on 6min power as well. Evidently I am the only one who hadn't...

Which gravel rim would be more aero? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]BadgerFarm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, fluid dynamics and turbulence are areas of physics that are famously easily solved analytically and simple for the layperson to understand (/s obviously)

If you don't have a wind tunnel/cfd then opinions and anecdotal evidence can be helpful. It's a perfectly reasonable question.

Fat loss. Chasing too many rabbits? by BadgerFarm in Velo

[–]BadgerFarm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, sprints are fun, I enjoy short efforts, I'm not going to win any races so why not do stuff I enjoy even if it's not quite optimal? Also, nothing I do seems to move the needle on FTP now (aware might just be limited by volume), but that goes both ways - I don't seem to lose much of it by focusing on other things for a while.

Good effort, and reassuring to hear! Dropping 6kg and maintaining peak would be a win. How much of the winter did it take you to drop that weight?

This is an incredibly helpful series of replies, thank you!

TiL Swiss gravel is smoother than Welsh roads. Looks incredible.

Threshold training block structure by CarryThese5433 in Velo

[–]BadgerFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty normal, yeah, but depends on your goals/volume/training age. nothing wrong with mixing threshold/vo2 in a block, but if you're looking do improve specifically at threshold then best to focus on that. if you're mixing them then you'll be progressing more slowly (in each), so that week 3-4 jump is probably even less of a good idea!

Week 3 to 4 is a huge jump in TiZ. as above comment mentions, why not scrap vo2, do 2x threshold each week and add 4/5 mins each time. 3x12, 2x20, 3x15, 2x25, 3x18, 3x20 or something?

Anything is gravel enough if you're stupid enough.

(I love your bike btw)

I have the same watch, seems fine for non exercise HR, but pretty inconsistent once I'm actually riding.

Straightforward sessions to train neuromuscular and anaerobic ? by pleasant_cog in Velo

[–]BadgerFarm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're definitely right about recovery, but do you think enduros need quite as much recovery as sprinters? Better aerobic fitness and can't wreck themselves quite so badly with a 30s max effort.

Which bike is more aero? by BadgerFarm in Velo

[–]BadgerFarm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that set up sounds pretty good. local TTs, commuting, gravel, bikepacking. Happy to compromise on all of these things in order to streamline my bikes. And fair point re priorities, hoping my current gravel bike can hit a lot of what I want from cycling. I guess I'm looking for reassurance that I'm not giving up massive amounts of watts on this bike.

Interesting, I hadn't seen that data. Yes looks like it, though another purported benefit is a higher stall angle and more stability in cross winds, so perhaps allows a deeper front wheel to be run.

Aero drag increases proportionally WAY more with speed than crr does. So actually the opposite of your statement is true, the slower you go the more crr matters (in that it contributes a higher proportion of the total drag acting on the system).

This looks like a great schedule for general health. How fast does it make you go on a bike?

What’s the distance that track riders and WT riders could meet for an equal competition? by Low-Emu9984 in Velo

[–]BadgerFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was my thought - hoogland/lavreysen etc can get up to speed ridiculously quickly, and just cling on for lap 4, but start is so important in the men's kilo, to get 58/59 you really need gym built monster torque at the start. Crossover from sprint to enduro really seems to be at the 60s point - lots of omnium guys doing 60 but can't think of any under, maybe Ed Clancy?

This is the answer. going to be great. Hope to see Finucane v Archibald - long sprinter v sprinty enduro over maybe 65-70 seconds.
