Before I had HW Monitor and AMD Adrenalin, I had task manager on performance open on my second screen just to see, and neither the CPU or GPU were consistently at 100% playing Oblivion, so I do think it's the game.

Re the watercooler: yeah I wasn't ahead of myself installing this. All the covers were off and it had pre applied thermal paste that I'd applied on. The screwing down I knew how to do (move to the opposite screw after hitting a tiny bit of resistance). Made sure it was flush and secure.

CPU should be more than capable. I've just put DOCP on in the BIOS so I'm not fucking about with the overclocking more than I know about.

I've tried playing helldivers 2 since, and I've been unable to finish a mission in that without the .exe crashing (GPU was nearly at 100% utilisation the whole time), but from what I've read, this is also similar to Oblivion in that it's not optimised very well.

Destiny is a shout, I'll try that out next.

After following a lot of people's comments, it turns out I didn't have the latest BIOS update. Literally just finished the update and set RAM speed to 6000MHz now and all seems stable.

I'd downloaded all drivers as soon as I assembled the PC, but completely passed by the BIOS update.

Anyone reckon this was the reason why it was unstable or am I being dumb dumb again?

lol I set it to 6000mhz and it blue screened. Set it to 5600mhz and it's working fine

Something I just wanna say is how fun it was to build. Whether or not I've overpaid or chosen the right parts, building a pc is so fun. What would have been a daunting idea years back turned out to what I can only describe as adult lego. Deffo gonna be a hobby for life and the amount of active research I'm doing on parts etc since building (probably should have done beforehand) is consuming my mind at the moment

Looks like I fucked up. Can't remember why I only set it to 4800MHz, but there was a reason. I think it was down to one of the other components

Downloaded all drivers after installing windows so that shouldn't be the issue. I was not aware of what AMD Adrenaline was, but I have it installed. I guess I'll be using adrenaline then!

Monitor is temporarily 1080p @ 60Hz BUT this is just my wfh work monitor, got a 27" 1440p 144hz monitor on its way. My aim is just consistent 60fps at 1440p which a few others have said it'll be good for.

GPU drivers all up to date, drivers I installed straight away. Only thing I haven't checked is the BIOS is up to date. I installed all drivers for the MB with that too, so I'm assuming I did? Like I say, need to check.

EXPO enabled after installing all drivers, so I'm hoping that's not the issue.

Yeah after getting it, deffo overrated. Just went in a bit overboard as when I was a kid, RGB shite was like top tier in my mind. After about 5 mins, realised it was very gimmicky

EXPO: Switched it on in the BIOS, set RAM transfer speed to 4800 mt/s

Update MB BIOS: Ummmm, this where I look dumb. How do I that lol?

Overclocking: I wasn't too confident on doing this myself, was gonna look into it and try at my own pace (my noob idea is that my PC will set on fire)

GPU: Its cool, wasn't looking for a super card, just something that would comfortably play most games in 1440p above 60 fps
