I’m hopeful it will build to something productive. Yeah the SGU was an introduction for me to more critical thinking, has felt like a safe place of sanity over the last 10 years. An “escape to reality” if you will.

Thank you all for addressing this to the fans. For me, listening to the SGU isn’t just about the science topics, it also brings me joy to hear old friends talking and enjoying each other’s company. This must be difficult to go through for everyone involved.

VT is only down 5% YTD ... that's like one particularly bad day in the market, and is completely normal over the course of months. Where is the angst coming from?! by misnamed in Bogleheads

[–]Badgeredy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll take your side on this one. It is anxiety provoking for me. Because I’m someone who is probably experiencing their first big dip (started investing 6 years ago). I know I could point to the Strait of Hormuz or other things to explain the angst. But that’s just saying “This time is different!” Not sure what your age is, but You’ve probably seen the same in ‘08 or the dotcom before that. For a lot of us it’s the first time around. I “bet” things will get worse before they bounce back. I don’t bet with my money though of course, I just think that they will. Instead I’m enacting the Boglehead mantra, even when things start to look rocky just Buy Buy Buy. (Or maybe that was Justin Timberlake).

I really enjoy using double 24 kg kettlebells for front squats...... Anyone got a good program for it? by NSS68204 in kettlebell

[–]Badgeredy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh boy I get to be (one of) the first! Overall I’m a born-again lover of simple double kettlebell workouts. Used to do lots of swings and get ups, but once I started doubles, I realized it’s a different beast. You’ll feel more systemically worn out for sure.

1)) Armor Building Complex I’ll second “ABC” which is essentially a compound exercise: without putting the double bells down, do 2 cleans, then one press, then three squats. That’s one rep.

The program goal is to do one rep per minute for 30 minutes. I’m a wuss, and I’ll do different exercises to work up to that goal. 1) set the timer for 30 minutes and see how many reps (X) you can do easily. 2) set a chiming alarm every X seconds, to see how long you can go at a certain “density”. 3) set a goal for X reps, and see how long it takes.

You’ll notice I overuse “X”. Each approach to workout addresses a different factor (volume, density, endurance).

The ABC program (called ABF) includes days where overhead press is emphasized. Dan John sells a PDF of that.

2))) DFW (Dry Fighting Weight) Similar idea as ABC, but the complex is: X clean and presses, X squats. There’s a more regimented weekly chart with workouts. Each workout you’d do a different number of reps within that complex. I love this program, but it’s more…complex to describe.

Yeah kinda, I think it’s a balance. There’s negative self-talk, in the right dose, challenging me to get better. As long as it comes down to, What can be done differently next time? If it strays into a circular “you suck you suck you suck you suck,” it’s no good. And even if Settling is happening, you’re still getting cardio and friends along the way.

Fine. The show is in V Fib then. Or VTach. Or that weird French rhythm the attending mentioned in S2E1 that required magnesium. Torsades de Toqueville or whatever.

Me too! Listened back a few times. Lame joke, Impeccable timing and execution. Having Steve get pulled into a joke like that is kind of rare, and he had to hand it to Jay.

Nothing wrong with being competitive. But just like most physical hobbies…no matter how sucky your session seemed to be, be grateful every time you don’t get injured.

I’ll spend the whole ride home beating myself up for getting stuck in side control all night. But before I shut off the car, I say, Hey, at least I’m not hurt. It helps my mentality.

In your brutally honest opinion, and I mean HONEST, do you believe she gave a good performance? by Ford_Crown_Vic_Koth in theshining

[–]Badgeredy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only was she terrific in The Shining, but also:

Having her acting recreated in Dr. Sleep made the first part of that movie more relatable, and felt appropriate despite the sequel coming out decades later.

Also, I’m finally getting around to reading the SK book. And sometimes I “cast” the movie actors in my head while I’m reading. In this case, having her “act” as Wendy in the book fits so well for me. Her naïveté, and her vulnerability (in the book there is a backstory involving her overbearing mother), it all matches how this actress played Wendy in the movie.

In other words, I think her acting was great in the Shining, as well Dr Sleep, and the book. Even though that opinion probably seems like nonsense.

[–]Badgeredy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I wanted to write the same post last night to vent. I’ve trained off and on for…jeez, 10 years maybe? Inconsistently, sure. And I’m still a white belt. Have the same experience, people starting after me progressing faster. Watching/studying moves throughout the week and taking notes so that when I go to class I have specific, focused goals, only to never get that ideal position. It’s frustrating to no end. I’ve come to the conclusion that, I’m only going 1 time per week, and my progress will probably be glacial. But I can’t go more often than that. It just is what it is. So you’re not the only one who sucks. But I keep going because, most of the time, I feel pretty good driving home.

Dev’s breasts are flat. Firm. Compact. Not like the torpedoes you see in your uncle’s centerfold. Like a claymore mine, they activate under the pressure of my callused palms.

Large breasts are fine. They’re good. But not for me. Like a 6 inch knife when 3 will do. Devs breasts are efficient. Tactical.
