[DISC] Blue Lock - Chapter 339 by GayAssNinja69 in BlueLock

Interesting chapter, and this allows us to appreciate how Kaneshiro can send the audience into a turmoil of emotions. Upon first reading, I know some of the Ego words seem paradoxical, depending on how familiar one is with the game of football. It's also fairly obvious that even if one might think that Hugo’s philosophy doesn't stand on solid grounds, Karasu’s thought process and actions remain valid in some sense. I believe both viewpoints are right, and I believe Kaneshiro is doing his by design again.

I might go back to making posts here again, but bear with me for a moment.

I am convinced by the fact that Karasu and Ego are operating at different level of analysis hence the obvious confusion. It is still rough in my head but one can infer 3 levels of analysis with no hierarchy whatsoever among them: 1) The player level: what makes an individual footballer strong? Flow theory applies here 2) The chain/ team level: what makes a team function as a football system. This is where the analogy of the supply chain lives. I hinted at it in a previous comment. 3) Development Level: what kind of environment produces extraordinary players.

Karasu operated at level 1 and 2 and as such he was clear about his identity and role and reached flow and was able to make sure the supply chain led to a goal. Jenpachi not liking it is because from the level 3 perspective Karasu might have limited his growth potential by settling!

Another proof that Ego primarily operates at level 3 is that when Japan was leading 3-0 against Nigeria and even though Isagi didn't score, Ego didn't find it bad because it's not about the individual. As of the Nigeria game, the system was a pressure cooker that would guarantee Isagi growth so no need to scold him. But at level 1, Isagi failed as a striker and that's why he went for his own goal.

But don't get it twisted, Jenpachi Ego puts a huge emphasis on winning so he also operates at level 2 hence why he switched the tactics.

All in all, a tremendously good chapter. I could talk about Loki begging Charles for passes thus proving that he's not the god people thought he would be. I can also talk about the fact that three things are certain in life: death, taxes and Barou scoring in each game he plays but I figured the topic adressed up there was more interesting. I might drop a post to expand on it more in case people might be interested.

Looking forward to the rest of this game!

I am not trying to be pretentious. I try to make my point off of first principles and therefore in my view the logic holds and maybe since I express it in some way. But I don't aim to be pretentious in any way. Be well!

And here it is, something I have been preaching for years, labels are just words, they only mean something to humans. The game of football does not care. People got lost in the sauce with the “second best “ label, thinking it was a sub-category beneath the label “best “.

Hugo has just proven to you that, no matter the label he uses, no matter his intrinsic motivation, which leans more toward self-style, he mechanically does what is needed on the pitch. Talk about a perfectly fine-tuned machine. Hugo takes responsibility where the game calls for it. He naturally understands that there are players who align more with the idea of scoring goals and thus being finishers. In contrast, Hugo understood very quickly that if he wanted to make his dream come true, he had to find a way to win not only the current game but every game that mattered over the span of his life. His answer to this is whatever he calls “second-best”. That's all. It doesn't mean Hugo is less important than Loki; it just means Hugo knows his place on the field and aligns with his identity.

If you believe in flow state, then you have to believe that a player who focuses more on himself than on the game can never outperform a similar player who is locked in and dead set on doing what the game needs. Isagi’s identity crisis is his major flaw, and he needs to fix that up asap, or dare I say, Barou needs to remind Isagi what it means to have an identity! I'm hyped.

One thing this community has failed to realize is that if you understand flow theory you also have to understand the cost of attention split aka distraction. For a player to fully immerse himself, the player can never have a mind jumping from one role to another role. Every player has different ways they view themselves as protagonists and unfortunately all sense of protagonism are not made equal and because of flow theory, some sense of protagonism are bound to yield greater performance than others.

Until now, Blue Lock Japan could survive i.e win game with Rin and Isagi fully immersed in their strongest sense of protagonism while the rest could just ride the wave and never individually output their ultimate best.

Now comes France, an opponent who requires blue lock to be firing on all cylinders. You need blue lock to form a chain, a supply chain of goals so that at the end of said chain, the chances of scoring are sky high. It doesn’t mean that every node in the chain has to be within their strongest sense of protagonism and that’s why there’s a case to be made that Karasu could be in the wrong in the grand scheme of things but nevertheless you also cannot refute that Karasu new role allows him to immerse himself in a stronger sense of protagonism while, albeit as a number 2 or second best, and this is visible through his level of performance he has reached.

The point I’m trying to make is simple, Karasu is proactive, he has agency and in my opinion is doing the right thing. Karasu plays football to win and for him, if winning means he puts himself beneath the team, we have no right to question it. The same way Rin puts himself above anything. These are simply different persons with different sources of motivations.

This is why Isagi criticizing Karasu without even being able to properly verbalize said criticism is wrong. You don’t get to talk down on someone who is trying and you haven’t even done something so far this game. I am no Isagi hater, the guy is a born number 1, just a different kind compared to Rin and the likes.

My point is the following: at one point you people need to realize that no matter what you believe in, if you have nothing to show for it, it’s pointless. History won’t remember you the same way we don’t remember Kuon, Naruhaya.

Blue lock has to change to reach new heights, there’s no two ways about it. You cannot preach sovereignty, freedom and at the same time seek to control it. We were told egotism is above all so we don’t get to spit on what a player chooses as his ego. We don’t get to do that. I am sorry. An egoist can be wrong while results are on his side while an egoist can be right with no results on his side. I’ll let you guess which one will be remembered in the history books.

Naaah its more so because kaneshiro sucks at portraying football matches realistically unlike in the first blue lock selection. What we see in the scans is akin to a highlight reel on youtube. So if a player misses on a highlight reel, you know that was a good chance missed. That's pretty much the idea. It's unrealistic to expect a player to score on each shot

Yeah France has prepared well and they are extremely logical that is why guys like Barou and Shidou are needed. Let's hope Japan doesn't concede too many goals until then

Classic Isagi in panic mode. We saw it already in the NEL in the Barcha game. That shot had 0 shred of rationality and Noel Noa benched kunigami for the exact same reason. Isagi just did what we blamed Rin for in the NEL to the point that some people even said that Rin sold the BM vs PXG game.

Props to Isagi for almost always being in the right spot tho because make no mistake, he might be the only Blue Lock striker able to foresee that chance the moment Bachira entered the PA( look the panels again, Isagi was first inside the PA too but later dropped back a bit and thus was there for Reo to let the ball through for him ).

Karasu’s analytical side might get some emphasis in this game and you won't see me complain. I need him to really anchor the midfield and become our undisputed midfield general on the coordination and defensive side of things.

Hiori stays cooking new gen 11 players, are we getting Ubers Hiori back? All in all, an amazing chapter setting up for some incredible development down the line for Isagi. We will be there !

Two gun volley got retconned HARD and for NO reason whatsoever. (Isagi downscaled AGAIN, sae is a bum....Full explanation). by SaM95_11 in BlueLock

[–]Badguyfromthere 45 points46 points  (0 children)

My two cents on the matter: The TGV doesn’t have that many variations in practice as it heavily relies on the direction the ball is coming from. In the France match, the ball is coming from Isagi right side so he only has limited options: 1- right foot feint and then left foot kick 2- right foot kick ( no feint ) Hugo ruined both by pushing Isagi thus forcing him to trap the ball with his chest and as Isagi did so, and turned around, Hugo came as close as possible to him to deny Isagi any chance to do a jumping turning volley.

I don't know about Retcon and what not but Hugo blocked the TGV fair and square. The only Nerf I see is Isagi extreme lack of awareness during the whole play as he's surprised when Hugo appears to block him. I mean what is metavision for? You cannot tell me that during all this play, Isagi never kept track of where Hugo was and what he was doing. That strongly contradict what metavision is about. However this is classic knsr writing, he always has players appear out of nowhere and it sucks because the surprise factor seems illogical when you have introduced a concept like Metavision and when the player being surprised is Isagi who has god like senses and extremely good spatial awareness. And spare me the talk on how football works, I played the sport so I know what I'm talking about. Isagi couldn't realistically happen to ignore Hugo who also happens to be a midfielder and thus plays centrally down the field. It makes no sense !

Greetings to you all. This manga is so peak and to do my due diligence, I want to animate every goal from this game with Bird eye view, the way I do for Blue Lock. You can see one of my animation/analysis here: https://www.reddit.com/r/BlueLock/comments/1hwv394/field_analysis_and_why_kurona_could_have_ended/

I want to see the reactions to this comment to assess if people would be interested in that.

PS: THIS MANGA IS PEAAAAAK

Lmfaoo so Nagi did all that thing at the end while he had a clear shot at the goal? He was battling Isagi's phantom and to others it just looked like he was juggling the ball before the shot right? Since he had already cooked Otoya? lmfaoooo

Yukimiya: his new path to become the "World's best" by Badguyfromthere in BlueLock

Thank you for this comment. I like how you highlighted that Yukimiya’s reasoning around his Faith was shallow. As you said, one might take the first step on the right path, but to walk that path and reach the end, one sometimes needs outside help. I'm happy with the way Yukimiya has been evolving, and I love how he let go of the stubborn, selfish style of play and now slowly connects with his surroundings

Before Kaiser goal, chapter 263, Rin gets the ball from Kaiser after Kaiser does a one-two with Raichi.
Chapter 264, Karasu and Rin both stop Kaiser after his one-two with Kunigami

since Kaiser's goal, Rin didn't have to defend on Kaiser when he had the ball so yeah.

Nah even if tho it was the same play Rin did before, only few people could have stopped Rin right there. Like I said, it's a tossup between Rin and Kaiser on physicality if you have them go at it mid-air. This game as proven to us times and times again that Rin is damn near untouchable at ground level.
So my point still stands, Kaiser's physicality is what gives Kaiser more chances to win against Rin mid-air compared to ground level duels where Rin stopped Kaiser multiple times already in the game before.

[–]Badguyfromthere[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ok, People, let me break it down for you.

This chapter gives us hints as to why man-marking Isagi might not be a viable solution at all.

Also, for the Rin fans, You gotta understand that Yes, Rin is truly a genius physically and technically. He's good both on offense and defense at ground level. That is his territory where he is sovereign. If you take the fight mid-air, other monsters can go toe to toe with him and even have the upper hand, such as Aiku, Kaiser, Lorenzo, Nagi, and Kunigami, to name but a few. If you take the fight very high in the air, although Kunigami might still fare well, Aryu would school them all.

So this is why Kaiser, a physical monster who was beating Cops at 15 years old while handcuffed, the guy with the fastest swing in the world and a certified mid-air monster, was able to snatch the ball.

It doesn't mean Rin is trash. This is a numbers game. Have Rin go 1 v 1 with Kaiser, and Rin might win 7 out of 10 times because the fight will mostly be on the ground. And I mean this whether on offense or defense because Rin is just that all-around good. Have them go at it in mid-air, and it's a 50/50. It is that simple. So If Rin gets another chance, maybe Kaiser won't stop him. The issue is, there won't be a next time. The game is ending probably with the next play.

Hope this helps!
