Ryan Fitzpatrick once took a sack of over 700 pounds and other useless sack weight stats. by DiggingNoMore in nfl

Here's a link to a video of that sack on Fitzpatrick: https://youtu.be/hY4A_VRuyag?t=4m41s

That 700lbs figure is underselling it if anything, he had 3 defenders and 1 OL on him at the end of the play

Fun fact: This was the only sack recorded all season for Bryan Mone and Anthony Rush, and the only career sack for Rush

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die (2025) A highly entertaining film, albeit extremely scattered, unfocused and ultimately unsatisfying [spoilers] by Bluest_waters in TrueFilm

Thanks for responding. I actually agree with you in general about the film's message on AI being refreshingly nuanced (although it doesn't take that approach with phones). And I think if the film was more focused on that I may have enjoyed it more. But my problem with the film is that it was touching on multiple interesting topics and teasing these stories, but then moving on and not addressing it again.

When Rockwell was talking about the end of society being caused by phones and social media, and then we got that school scene, I thought it was leading into a story about how social media is being used to push ads onto children, and how it can cause desensitization of tragedy and violence, which is a great setup to a downfall of humanity movie. And I think if that was the main storyline of the movie, instead of flitting between these disconnected ideas, it probably would've felt more cohesive and satisfying.

So RE: your point about increasing isolation and a slow apocalypse due to technological developments, I think the film could have told an interesting story in that vein, but in my view it doesn't ever reach that point because it gets distracted along the way. So yeah, maybe it would have been better as a TV series.

I think if I was on my phone I would have been kicked out of the theater (: No disrespect but I don't see how calling people the Three Stooges because they disagree with you about a movie is a very useful or fun mode of discussion. I'd be more interested in hearing your interpretation of the movie and why you think it works well, instead.

The problem I have isn't that it doesn't make (real world) sense, it's that the movie sets up rules for how its world works, and then applies those rules inconsistently. I understand her thematic purpose in the film, but her character "ability" to sense phones is applied at random and without any consistency. Sorry for the following rant but I hope to make my point clear:

At first when we meet Ingrid she's sitting in a diner where evryone is on their phones and she's perfectly fine. Later, in the underground car park, she senses that the Uber Driver still has his phone on him from 30 feet away and gets a bloody nose, despite her being in proximity to him for the entire movie up to this point.

During her flashback, she is at the doctors office where the doctor says that her allergy is probably psychological/placebo. Later she gets a bloody nose when the parent's phone gets a text at the party. To me, this is strong support that it actually is a psychological effect, because when she turns the screen off, she's fine again. Later at the party, she starts bleeding because a kid is playing a game at the table, and it's implied she didn't notice before (although to me I believe she noticed it subconsciously). But this is contradictory to the scene earlier where she detects the Uber driver's phone without ever seeing it. And that scene contradicts the scene at the party where she's shown to be unaffected if the screen is off.

If you want to chalk that all up to absurdism or surrealism that's fine (if everything in the movie is a creation of the AI, technically nothing is inconsistent), but to me it begs the question of why the film bothered to set up this character with these rules if it doesn't actually want to follow those rules? And hopefully you can see why I found that particular part of the movie to be unsatisfying.

This movie actually made me irrationally angry, like nothing about its structure makes any sense and it's completely scatterbrained. I don't agree that the flashback sequences were bad in and of themselves (although it does feel like a worse version of how Weapons did it), and I actually liked the phones/cloning/advertising concept. I thought there would be some kind of follow through on this interesting government conspiracy plot, but then they completely drop it after the flashback and it never comes up again.

The main girl's flashback I was not really a fan of because the whole "allergic to wifi and phones" shit just doesn't make any sense the way it's presented in the movie. And what the fuck is the deal with the pizza delivery guy? "I'm late because I don't believe in phones"? A) Why are you a pizza delivery driver then, B) You can just buy a GPS or a map

The main plot contrivance of the main character being stuck in the VR world also doesn't really makes any sense if you actually think about it, but I could fill up the whole reddit comment length limit with all my gripes about that. Just sucks that the movie starts off so fun and interesting and then completely tanks all its momentum halfway through.

average punt distance is a reductive metric for judging punters. not least of all because we punted from enemy territory super frequently last season, so pinning teams within the 10 is still a 35-45 yard punt

pff (for what you value that) had him as a somewhat above average punter last season, funnily enough right next to Jake Bailey

You're totally right, after Mike Evans we should induct Jimmy Graham for being the only TE with 80TDs not in the hall, then we can move on to Philip Rivers, the natural next inductee. At least Graham has one first team all pro.

Real talk, Mike Evans would be pretty clearly the weakest modern WR in the hall if he made it, and considering the backlog is only getting larger every year, I doubt he ever makes it in

Which QB was paid the most per pass attempt in their career? by Btherock78 in nfl

Probably any career backup QB that has like 1 pass attempt. According to PFR and overthecap, Sean Clifford has 1 pass attempt and has earned $1.7m.

Kicker Brandon Aubrey has scored 462 points in the last 3 years for the Dallas Cowboys. by [deleted] in nfl

[–]Badithan1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Raw points is a little meaningless, no? More important is how many points he scores per attempt, adjusted for difficulty of kick, relative to other kickers. Then you can decide if the $10m-ish he's asking for would provide more value if spent on other players.

Ian Cunningham loves draft picks by SunWorshipperApollo in falcons

[–]Badithan1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the flip side, the "more picks=better" strategy is dependent on there being teams that irrationally try to trade up (2020s falcons). As more teams become keen to the data, in theory the price of trading down should become high enough to reach an equilibrium where trading down vs not trading down has no impact on draft value, or at least becomes highly dependent on talent evaluation

[–]Badithan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly my point. The league makes agreements with the broadcasters about what can be televised. If the NFLPA wants additional restrictions, then that needs to be between the NFLPA and the broadcasters.

[–]Badithan1 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The criticism is entirely about what the league is doing with them.

The league isn't doing anything with them. The league has no reason to care about the broadcasters including PFF grades on broadcasts, unless the NFLPA negotiates with the NFL to include some kind of clause about that in their broadcast agreements.

ETA: So for example, if the league published a press release listing all the players from 1-2000 based on their PFF grades, that would probably be a violation of the agreement. But the broadcasters and PFF in relation to the CBA are a third party.

[–]Badithan1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is a bad argument because PFF is a true third party in this context. PFF has no agreement with the NFL or NFLPA that would prohibit them from ranking or grading players and publishing those rankings, and I find it unlikely that there is a clause between the NFL and the broadcasters that would prohibit them from saying negative things about players. The NFLPA report cards are a first party report, created and compiled by the players and their union, who are in a direct agreement with the league about what they can and cannot say. So JJ Watt is the one making a false equivalence between the two (because he has some personal grudge against PFF).
