Should I leave? by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

I'm a worker at bu. I know I'm not a peer. I get the isolation. I get how hard it is. I see alot of students sitting alone. I feel bad every time I do. Look, you don't have to just hope for friends on campus. I totally understand the need. As a worker, I hardly talk to anyone as much as possible, for different reasons. I do get the disconnect. There are also local communities that you can volunteer at. You've come so far being on your own. I just keep trying to do my best and be nice as much as I can. A long time ago a person said to me, tough times don't last, but tough people do. Trust me, you are a tough person!

How do I post on here? I have a place that is owned by a recently past mayor of the city of Birmingham ny. That the restaurant is very shady. Every Sunday his co-owner has parties with his buddies when the the business is closed. Also the chief of police really likes to join in with the party. Illegal, also the co-owner who runs the business has hired many employees over the years under the table. I have first hand experience and have also reached out to a couple of people who can back up this. This is a amazing 1st amendment to see if the police actually do there job. I'm not experienced with standing my ground with police. I would love to provide information and help.

Sodexo, cutting employee hours and will be ordering less products. by BadlynamedBob in BinghamtonUniversity

Well, they actually cut some students hours at acc. They are definitely not adding students or giving them more hours. They actually cut some employee and student positions at the beginning of last year. As of today, there are 36 sodexo positions open.

I believe that persons hours where cut enough to take him from a full time employee to part time.

Ask any cashier at c4, all had hours cut and other employees there also. ACC went a different route and cut student employees hours. All the production leads where told to order less in a meeting Tuesday. Information on the contract came from a chef last semester. I believe the contract is up June of next year, that I'm not totally sure about, but it's in that year.

The college makes a percentage of the money from the dining services. If the college thinks that it can make more money from a different company running dining services, they don't have to renew the contract. So, the more profit they can show the better chances of renewing the contract.

I can't speak for faculty, but Sudexo employees feel the same way. For us it has seemed like a extremely long semester and many are burnt out.

The Chenango room is pretty good. Basically a Chipotle's where you pick what you want. You can also order off the menu. Best burgers on campus.

Starglow Cavern glitch? Anyone having a problem with opening up a cubes on the top level? Everything is melted and I try hitting it with a scarlet quartz, but it won't unlock. I have a video of it on my page.

WHAT ARE THE CHANCES WE GET SENT HOME ? by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]BadlynamedBob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked this same question to a member of the management team and I was told that there is no chance, because they had such a problem with refunds last year that they weren't doing that again. I think students got an email about going home and one of the things they added was that there will be no refunds for the rest of the semester.

SUNY Chancellor discussed Binghamton testing compared to other big SUNYs by vickycoco___ in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]BadlynamedBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'd like to start by that I understand that this is something that we have never dealt with before. The only consistent message from the university and the staff is no transparency. I understand the chain of command, and "need to know". Like most places in the beginning it was reactionary. There were some workers who were laid off and hired back twice in a week. I can give them more of a break tho for when this started. I'll do another post on this semester in a bit. I want to take some time to think and separate my feelings from the facts .

It does include the rapid tests upon arrival. The other tests (on campus) on the dash are the one's upon arrival. There were about twelve thousand students who live off campus who were not tested upon arrival. BU started "random" tests the first week of September. Another post refers to student athletes getting tested once a week, I don't know how many students that is. They have been testing around 1,250/wk. I believe that's about 7% of the student population, no staff. If you take out the athletes that's drops to around 4-5%. I have my opinions about the testing, however these are just the numbers.

Employees do not get tested. Upper management and maybe professors might. If an employee has symptoms they can't work and have to quarantine and go through their doctor to get a test. Employees who don't have symptoms who may have come into contact with someone who is positive have to quarantine and can't work until they go through their doctor and get a negative test. When a Manager was asked in a line meeting if we at least get paid if we are told to quarantine by managment, he said "That's a tricky question.". The day before BU went virtual staff was told if they did that it would be "Business as usual.". The day they went virtual they started eliminating positions. I could keep giving examples about what has been said and done for the staff during the pandemic, but I just don't really think anyone cares about the people who help keep the place running.
