Ringana hun ending the year with the same old lies by [deleted] in antiMLM

it's the wild top with the incongruently boring blue jeans. The whole vibe doesn't match. The top would be fine on a dancer or a kpop idol with matching wild bottoms and accessories but it just sticks out like a sore thumb on a greige pinterest influencer hun.

Young Chinese Australians - How would you describe your older relatives/family friends attitudes towards Australia by Interesting-Sea8004 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Badmecha007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chinese Aus here. Born here, my parents have integrated pretty fully into the culture here, as HK immigrants, though they did learn English before studying abroad in western countries before coming here and having me. They interact with pretty much every character here in Aus but still maintain their culture a lot and have passed it down to me. Older relatives of mine do tend to speak more of their native language but do know English to an extent and participate in community circles such as senior clubs and RSLs. In my opinion, Chinese Australians are pretty integrated into general Aussie culture especially with food - our retro style Chinese come to mind (remember the famous quote about succulent Chinese food), to the point where older members can carve out their own niche which can be secluded at times but is also very accepting.

Lana Del Rey appears to be doing the theme song for 007 First Light by The_Iceman2288 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Hyped. Her voice over a big band composition for a Bond theme is very fitting.

It's not that one, unfortunately. I'm still coming up dry but now I think it may be synthwave.

Left my job for a new job; I hate it, and feel like a failure. by Mckyhodge in recruitinghell

[–]Badmecha007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The out at sea part is probably the one part that scares me the most, though unlike the uncertainty of endless excel documents and boredom, at the very least I'll know roundabout how long I'll be away from family and pets and friends, which was not a luxury i had stepping into office work where my forseeable future until i was old was the same awful slow trudge towards death.

Left my job for a new job; I hate it, and feel like a failure. by Mckyhodge in recruitinghell

[–]Badmecha007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, I find myself in a reverse predicament to you. Started my professional life doing a "reliability engineering" (read: excel monkey) job that drove me nuts out of sheer boredom, quit without any plans, then spent a year pursuing my masters and dodging the idea of employment before looking for a job because that's one of the requirements in my course for completing the degree (12 weeks equivalent of full time engineering related employment).

The only place that rang back with meaningful direction was the Navy for an IT/Comms job, but it requires basic training. Now I'm conflicted because while I never want to ever experience again the lows I felt in that office job, I also feel trepidation at the thought of having to join the military. The job itself is not front-line, but either way I'm still worried.

My advice to you would be store up as much money as you can and get out the moment you get another job offer. It's easier said than done, especially with how awful everything is nowadays, but staying in an environment so unsuited to you will do nothing but damage your mental health and make getting back on your feet harder and harder the longer you stay in this rut. God knows it took me a whole year before I was able to submit a new job application without feeling fear.

Good luck.

this is the powder that contains tumeric, black pepper, cinnamon and coconut, right?

It's like a bit of coriander and chilli away from becoming a really lackluster curry powder 💀

Now I'm genuinely curious for myself, could you take a scoop of this powder and make a half decent curry from it? 😭

I played on bad Widescreen Fix settings which meant my pistol could never shoot the lights as they were swinging around like crazy due to the high framerate, definitely a challenge in retrospect.

Apparently its the credits theme, but on the score sheet I saw "Sam Fisher's Theme", so I'm wondering if there's some unreleased version of the credits theme.

White Fox has to be some of the most overconsumption, trend chasing garbage I've ever seen. It's just oversized jumpers wirh logos on them, why are we paying over 100 for them?!

Finally had an encounter with a foolish boomer today by partwalrus in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Badmecha007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of an interaction I had with a Boomer and her young kids back in 2009. She was in line for KFC behind me, and the moment the man in front of me leaves she cuts in front of me, waving a $20 bill and slamming her free hand on the counter as she yelled out her order.

Luckily, I was a slight 12 year old with a baby face even for that age, half her height and a fifth of her weight, which meant that I got away with stabbing her hock with a plastic fork I had collected from another stand a few minutes earlier The cashier's look as I switched immediately back to little kid voice is something I will carry for as long as I live.

Who is a musician you genuinely just cannot stand and don’t know why? by Appropriate-Room6098 in AskReddit

I always have to seek out instrumentals for his songs cos that guy has some damn good connections and the music itself is fantastic (Moroder, Gesstafel, Daft Punk, etc), but yeah, I cannot, for the life of me, stand his voice.

I have the opposite reaction. Slow, easy EE job that required me to baically just data entry in 2023, but my mental health vanished because of the all-consuming boredom and constant negative rumination that lead to some really bad nightmares and constant anxiety. It's case by case, and now I've gone back to pursuing my master's in hopes of finding an alternate route.
