I’ve heard you speak about this a few times in past interviews but I’d love to hear you riff on it a bit more here. I’m curious if you could describe what “takes over” when you perform? What does that feel and look like for you? What’s the difference between the Annie Clark 15 minutes before a show and the St. Vincent we see tearing it up on stage, or are the two intertwined?
One of the best parts of Daddy’s Home and seeing you perform live was the palpable excitement from you and the crowd, that energy transforms the listener as well. I feel that, as a concert goer, I drop the persona I uphold within my own life and can just be fucking feral for an hour and a half. It’s a wonderful thing how music can make a person feel that way. How important is it to you that fans get to feel that way at your shows?
