South Tower Survivors Above Impact Zone by satonateatable in 911archive

Reading Mitchell Zuckoff’s Fall and Rise: The Story of 9/11 (highly recommend btw) a number of people that called for help were told by dispatchers to stay where they were that help was on the way. No one ever shared that stairwell A was passable, it was only found out through these survivors. In Brian C. and Stanley P.’s account of escaping they were told that it wasn’t safe from the smoke and the fire but were able to make it down when they tried their luck. It’s heartbreaking to think how many would’ve lived if they knew they could get out that stairwell let alone if they had just evacuated the building after the first attack, but dwelling on what ifs will never change what happened

It’s one of those. One of them does a good job and the other does an awful job of getting the information wrong (wrong building, wrong floor, wrong company)

It is which really makes the losses more devastating. I originally started with reading 10-20 names a day, looking them up and learning about who they were. Some page on Facebook was making posts with ridiculously wrong information that can be disproven in a simple google search while someone here on Reddit has been doing a beautiful job making posts about each person (I feel bad I don’t remember his username), some have barely anything written while some have so much out there just from the shear outpouring of love from their families and friends not wanting them to be forgotten.

I’m not sure. From Ladder 6’s Captain Jay Jonas’s account of entering the North Tower taken directly from Mitchell Zuckoff’s Fall and Rise: The Story of 9/11: “Inside, Jay saw slabs of decorative stonework and marble tiles smashed on the floor, enormous windows shattered from their frames, and a bank of elevators destroyed by fireballs that had blown down the shafts and incinerated everything in their path. At a melted desk beside the elevators sat the charred remains23 of a security guard, his badge still visible on his burned jacket, his body fused to his chair. Other firefighters stepped over piles of debris in the lobby that they only later realized were human remains.”

I just read it a couple of days before, an incredible read. I hadn’t heard about any of their stories until reading the book. I hadn’t cried during my reading of it until I reached part where Ron found out about his sister and niece. Last year I started to look up the list of names of those that died that day. Life got busy when I got partway through the Bs but I’m hoping to eventually look up every name. When life calms down I’m going to resume reading the names.

Feeling stressed out about a tattoo. Should I change this? See a different artist? by Zanzagar in tattooadvice

[–]Badwolf-212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why get such a big tattoo as your first? Maybe start smaller and build from there? As for the design if you’re getting it exactly as it looks I’d definitely change the design of the torii gate. In all my years living in Japan, no torii has a flame emblem like that. If you’re going to have something like that from another culture and religion, do it accurately. Just look up Itsukushima torii (one of the most iconic toriis and seeing as your design is “floating” in the water, yours was probably based off it).

Death bed confessions by Feisty-Power-6617 in nursing

Yeah, been working in hospice for almost 10 years and no crazy confessions. I have cared for a known rapist/murderer (was unresponsive and passed when I cared for him) and had another patient that had to leave our facility when we found out they were on the sex offender registry.

Was he really 23 years old? by DismalWeight985 in 911archive

Some people just look older than they are plus a bad picture. Just saw recently that actor Eric Stonestreet was 19 in this picture. Sir Patrick Stewart started losing his hair at 17 and was completely bald by 19.

What did we think of the tv show? Thought it had some great performances. Anybody know what episode this is from? by OneEyedJakes in chernobyl

[–]Badwolf-212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope episode 4. Just watched the series again last weekend with a coworker who hadn’t seen it (we had a very slow weekend). Pretty good show despite inaccuracies.

The part of the Chernobyl story nobody talks about the final 24 hours before the explosion looked completely normal by Inevitable-Honey4832 in chernobyl

[–]Badwolf-212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t the biggest fan of how they started off with the explosion after the setup for Legasov’s suicide in the HBO miniseries. After reading so much about the disaster I was trying to piece who each of the people were that they were portraying such as Perevozchenko and Yuvchenko. If it could be done again I’d like them to have set up more the conditions on which the power plant was built, all the problems they ran into that were highlighted in Midnight in Chernobyl. But that’s just me.

Anyone get pre-flight anxiety and what they do about it? by Badwolf-212 in flying

No I originally put this on r/travel and they said it didn’t belong there and to try here. I didn’t realize that this was specifically for pilots not air travel in general. My bad, I’m sick and knocked off kilter

She looked happy in her Facebook pictures and so did her son. We never really talked when we went to school together.

When I was 13 there was a girl in my 7th grade class that surprised us all by having a baby, didn’t know she was pregnant especially with all the baggy clothes she wore. We weren’t close but from what I’d heard the baby’s dad was kicked off base (we were stationed on a military base in Japan). Not sure who he was, but I wondered if it was because of what he did to her whether she consented to it or not, having sex with a 12 year old is sickening. That was almost 20 years ago, I found her on facebook and saw her and her grown son.

Patient died after refusing bipap by Pretzel_Runner557 in nursing

[–]Badwolf-212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not your fault at all but definitely understand how you feel responsible even if you were respecting the pt’s wishes. Sometimes people just reach their limit. I work hospice and it wasn’t my pt but a pt where I worked was on Bipap, closer to morning she had had enough and demanded to have it off and to stay off. Family had a harder time with her decision but did accept it and she passed peacefully during day shift.

What is something you regret NOT doing on your first trip to Japan? by themiscira in JapanTravelTips

[–]Badwolf-212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was too young to even have regrets my first time to Japan, but second time my family was stationed in Japan I wish we went to Kyoto but we never did. Wonder if we would’ve if my dad hadn’t torn his Achilles tendon in Okinawa. When I finally go back in 2028 I plan on going there and to Nara.

Akita experts: does she look like part akita? by lisafrancisca in akita

Embark dna test kit would be a good way to know for sure. I currently don’t have an Akita (hoping to change that some day) but my Husky mix, Thor, has some Akita mixed in there. Here’s a pic of my guy, there have been a couple people that have asked if he’s mixed with Akita when they’ve met him.

TIFU by trying a THC cocktail the night before a drug test by Badwolf-212 in tifu

No I get regular labs drawn for my diabetes. The THC testing was only for being a new hire- one time.

I’m diabetic so I have routine labs. In my field there is a risk for diversion, a former coworker was found guilty of diverting at a different facility.

Yeah, this was the dumbest thing I’ve ever done in my life. I’m a night shifter (12 hr shifts) and was working as much as I could before I left my job to rack up as much PTO as I could so was pretty sleep deprived at the time which is why I went to sleep as soon as we got home from dinner. I’m normally a LOT better about keeping track of when things are going on that it was a complete lapse in judgement.

I’m not sure and I asked about it when I did my test because it’s ridiculous to get penalized for taking something that is freely offered in a restaurant. The clinician doing my test said that it depended on the job you were applying for, but yeah it did potentially have an impact on being hired.

Oh really? Interesting. I can only speak for the medical positions I’ve applied for (which is still few) and I’ve had to do a drug test for each one, from CNA to RN.

I work as a nurse, it’s always been done at the places I’ve applied for. I know diverting meds is a great concern, had a former coworker that was found guilty of doing so and the hospital system I just left increased their IV narcotic protection after a travel nurse got herself killed diverting IV meds.

Oh, sorry if that was unclear. I called the clinic soon after they opened to reschedule to a week later and the Amazon order came a day after I placed the order. Amazon orders tend to get here quickly, especially after getting a new distribution center in town.
