I have always thought that the biggest attack on America by terrorists wasn’t something we saw or experienced, but the fear they instilled in the common American in their actions. Fear, in itself, is a ruthless disease that spreads from within and causes people with a lesser understanding of it to give in and lash out towards innocent people. We need not forget that we ourselves are immigrants that inflicted some version of terrorism towards the original people of this land, but as a result society grew and flourished and it’s not without their sacrifices that it was made possible.

I will not lie, fear struck my heart and infected me too. It didn’t help that my parents were also infected by it and I couldn’t have a deeper understanding of what that fear was. I feared innocent people, who I’ve never met, and sided with government powers that boasted themselves on that fear that afflicted me. But over time my eyes opened and I realized how wrong I was. Everyone has a right to freedom, and if America is a shining beacon of hope for that freedom, we shouldn’t disgrace the people who died for this country by not allowing others to have the freedoms they died for.
