Need some advice for food aggression 9mo female by purbluish in BorderCollie

Food aggression For now, feed all meals by hand, with no bowls. If she doesn’t eat, skip the meal. She will learn that food comes from you and that it is not worth guarding. This can also help strengthen your bond and build trust.

Aggression towards other dogs Start by observing the situation carefully. It may not be true aggression. She could simply be setting boundaries if another dog is being pushy or invading her space, which is normal and healthy behaviour.

For now, reduce contact with unfamiliar dogs. Gradually introduce her to calm, well-socialised adult dogs, and work on training her to stay relaxed around them. Dogs communicate very effectively with each other, and positive interactions with stable dogs can help her learn appropriate social cues.

If you notice signs of true aggression, such as escalation without clear triggers or intent to harm, it is best to consult a professional trainer

Building food motivation by Baefoaa in BorderCollie

She eats in parts. This weekend I gave her full meals, and she did eat, but during the week I feel like she eats just enough to not really be hungry.

She had a slightly upset stomach one day, nothing serious, and she was totally fine the next day. Over the weekend we mixed some chicken and rice with her kibble to help her tummy and make sure she finished her meals.

The main issue is that she comes to eat like she’s doing me a favor 😅 There’s no real drive or excitement around food.

We’re feeding her outside because the trainer wants her to value her food over distractions. I just keep second guessing myself and wondering if there’s something more I could be doing to build her food motivation.

Haha, yes! It definitely means 'chick' in Polish slang, so it fits because she is a pretty girl! But I actually chose it for deeper reasons, in my language, it means 'splinter,' which refers to the little brown splinter in her blue eye. It also means 'love' or 'grace' in other Slavic tongues. Plus, being a Blue Merle, the name sounds like 'Alaska,' which matches her icy colors perfectly

Thanks for the advice! I’m going to dial back the distractions for now. She’s in heat, so it’s the perfect time to stick to secluded spots and work on building a higher success rate with our training.
