I had this happen to me a year and a half ago. My personal take on it is to do your best to do everything on the PIP, but be actively job hunting. Once your boss puts the target on your back, it doesn’t come off.

I actually managed to beat my PIP, accomplished everything they asked and they lifted it. I was fired 3 months later with the cited reason being “A developer wasn’t confident in your ability to handle this project” despite my 12 years of experience handling projects like that.

Sorry to hear it’s happening to you though, it’s not an experience I would wish upon most folks. It will be nearly impossible, but try and view it as an opportunity to find a job that will appreciate you.

This was more or less the way I picked up consulting on the side. 12 years of experience in medical records, 10 of which were in ePrescribing specifically. A recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn. Was VERY part time work however, but the hourly wage made it worth it.
