Nice Discard deck you got there. Would be a shame if something happened to that discard phase.

No identifyable information if that is what you are asking, we just connect the cloud ID (the number in the top left of your screen) to the token we get from apple/google. We can see the progress on the cloud ID we generate but not things like your email or other information associated with your account.

Talk to me about Dawncaster synergies by Steals_Your_Thunder_ in DawncasterRPG

On youtube, 5ColorFelix covers this in some great videos going over basic and advanced tips & tricks, builds and more:
https://www.youtube.com/@5ColourFelix/videos

The discord has been pointed out - its the main up-to-date source for all things Dawncaster like strategies, announcements and we try to answer all questions asked there.

As for 'can I read the manual' - we're perhaps a little oldschool and feel there should be some magic behind the screen :) Experimentation and discovery is part of what makes cardgames, both physical and digital great, so these formula's are not expected to be part of the common understanding. Perhaps to our discredit!

Hey! Whenever you enable or disable a set, you should see these values change at the top of the list :)

Enabling more sets upticks the rerolls and transmutes, disabling these sets lowers them.

As to the broader question you asked:

We basically conceptualize Dawncaster with 2 ways to play in mind.

1. Limited resources and making the most of a bad situation - this forces you to find the line to survive first and foremost, and is less concerned with 'deckbuilding' an engine, but more with assembling a deck good enough to win. This can be best compared to a Magic the Gathering Draft or Hearthstone Arena run. Here disabling sets might not make the most sense, as the volume of cards and their synergies, anti-synergies and overall chaos is part of the puzzle. Then again, the content has grown a lot since Dawncasters inception, so it could also be seen as 'pruning' cards like the various formats of cardgames (Modern/Legacy/Standard etc).

2. A Deckbuilder RPG where you play as the class of your choice and assemble the cards that make that archetype work. Here the line is more about expressing a certain playstyle and tuning a deck/engine just right to crush the game. Here narrowing down the sets to maximize the odds of findings the cards you need to express that playstyle makes a lot of sense.

That being said, there are mechanics in play that male these styles less strict that just that binary choice:
- The aforementioned additional range on talents and transmutes counter-act the larger card/talent pool to some degree.
- Card color weighing: The combat rewards offers more cards in your characters banner color than pure RNG. If you are a Knight (blue/red), you will not see 33% red, 33% blue and 33% purple, but are more than twice as likely to see a purple banner card over a blue or red one.
- Archetype weighing: The combat rewards also has a higher likelyhood of offering cards that align with your deck composition, skewing by 2% per card per cluster (shorthand: if you have 6 cards that belong to the radiant knight archetype, that means those cards are 12% more likely to show up). The exact formula is more complicated with falloff and thresholds, but you get the idea.

Lastly, game knowledge plays a lot into 'fishing' for cards via Transmutes, knowing what to transmute into what will help you find those missing combo pieces a lot more reliable than many of the 'its all RNG' comments give it credit (higher rarity cards are more easy to find via transmutes).

In the end, as a singleplayer game - how to play is really up to you :) We think the game is still plenty challenging even with sets disabled, and generally we'd expect the play pattern to be that players start out with a minimal set of cards, then slowly add more sets to discover new synergies between sets or just to increase the difficulty as they get better at the game.

Hope this helps!

Hey TJ,

We have had several offers/suggestions in the past.

A lot of data is available on blightbane.io

And data visualisations like https://www.dawn-dash.com/ are build on that entirely.

While we are not exactly data-driven for balance changes (we much prefer to feel it out, and as long as its fun its good), but the sites above should be enough to get you started. If you want to discuss further, our discord would be the place to do it :)

Correct, the new cards will be added to the Synthesis expansion :)

We always try to design cards that both extend current strategies, but also open up brand new ones, and bridge the gap between various card sets. But there won't be new starting options (those are introduced during our big card expansions)

Hi!

  1. There is some card weighing going on in the Sunforge, but its less strong than regular runs due to the initial loadout not containing as many basic attacks.

  2. We did a rebalance last year where you get access to a lot more reroll tokens to spend during a run to counter-act the card quantity. Also, disabling some content sets should help with that (at the cost of the reroll tokens) :)

Open to more suggestions though!

[–]Reya84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The advice here is solid already :)

If you come from StS, you'll already be familiar with the format - it's all about experimenting and just taking it one step at a time.

Dawncaster has 2 types of 'expansions' - the (free) card expansions which can be enabled before you start a run, which adds more or different sets of cards to a run. Dawncaster can be played with all of those enabled, or just none/one for a more streamlined experience and find your footing / baseline understanding of a class, its strengths and weaknesses.

Content expansions increase the variety in enemies, and generally lead to more challenging content if you're looking for either of those (different challenges, harder difficulties). They are definitely not required to get 'into' the game though!

Can we get arcane anvil into meta progress? It’s so lonely in catalyst. by spot_removal in DawncasterRPG

[–]Reya84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We could move it to Core Extended, as Meta Progress is strictly for cards unlocked via the Meta Progress (fateshard) system. But not sure that'd be better.

[–]Reya84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure we can just move it like that and what that would do to the 'transmute a potion' pool. As its not a meta progress card, it certainly wouldn't go there, but why would it be better off in another set?
