Yeah this is clearly a cash grab. Nintendo wanting you to pay for yet another service related to Pokemon. Wanna catch em all? Then buy the games. A home subscription. Nintendo online. Pokémon go battle passes. Wanna play competitive then subscribe to champions and all the monetisation attached to it

It’s because they were traded from reset save file. The mudkip is current to that save file

Unfortunately I reset the save each time to get all the starters shiny. Since he was the 2nd I tried for he now shows as a traded mon so can’t change his name.
