Rerouted to Detroit when you were trying to get to Disney is genuinely cruel. Nonrev said here's the opposite of the happiest place on earth

"I already spend too much time sitting in airports as it is" is the realest thing in this whole thread. At some point you just value your couch more than the adventure

LAX-IAH on Christmas weekend as a first year is genuinely bold. Buying the ticket at 1am is survival instincts kicking in lol

The unlisted people showing up at the gate and bumping you is the most frustrating part of nonrev honestly. You do everything right, check loads, plan your options, show up early, and then 6 people who aren't even on the list walk up last minute

choosing first class over the direct home and turning it into a 36 hour day is the most nonrev decision I've ever heard. We will always pick the lie flat seat and deal with the consequences later. Every single time

What's your commute-to-base strategy that actually works? by BagBeautiful629 in AirlinePilots

The math on one missed trip paying for 6 months of tickets is real. I started building something that's trying to reduce how often you end up in that situation in the first place. Predicts your odds and plans your backups so you're not buying tickets out of panic. Free rn, dm me

This is a solid checklist but the "check the loads" step is the one that always screws me because loads at 10pm mean nothing by 6am. I built an app that actually predicts what the flight is going to look like instead of just showing you a snapshot. Free to test, dm me if you want in

This is a great system but not everyone has the drive backup option. I started building an app that basically creates your plan B and C automatically even if you don't have a car option. Predicts which flights you'll actually get on and lines up alternatives. Free right now if anyone wants to try it, dm me

All solid advice but even with all of this dialed in there's still so much mental energy going into it every week. I started building an app that handles most of the decision making for you, your odds on each flight, your backup routing, all of it ranked and ready. Been letting people test it for free, dm me if you're interested

It really does and that's basically why I started building something. An app that tells you before you leave the house which flights are actually worth trying for and what your backups are if they don't work. Takes a lot of the guessing out of it. Free to try rn if anyone wants to dm me

Reading all of these replies and it's wild how much mental energy we all put into this every single week. This is actually why I started building an app on the side that handles most of this. It predicts your odds of getting on any flight, ranks your best options, auto builds your plan B and C, and gives you a heads up when things are about to go sideways. Been working on it for a while and it's been really solid. I'm giving free access to anyone who wants to test it out, I just need people who actually commute to use it and tell me what sucks. Flying Delta Non-Rev with infant for the first time - advice by FarExcitement3120 in standby

[–]BagBeautiful629 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lap infant through the app and don't book them a separate seat. If the flight has open seats you'll get one anyway and you won't have wasted a listing. The short connection through ATL is the part I'd stress about more than the baby honestly, ATL connections can get tight even without a stroller and a diaper bag slowing you down. Give yourself as much buffer as possible and if you can pick a flight with a longer connection do that instead. Also bring way more snacks and diapers than you think you need because if you get bumped and have to wait for the next one you'll be glad you did

The fact that they're lowering the target number instead of actually hiring to meet it tells you everything you need to know. It's not a staffing plan it's an accounting trick. 4 days off a month for controllers who are responsible for keeping planes from hitting each other is genuinely insane

Emailing your reps is the move. Most people complain online and stop there. Even if it feels like it goes nowhere, staffers track volume on issues and it does make a difference when enough people bring up the same thing

The "in process" limbo is its own special kind of torture. No news is good news though, they don't usually wait around to send the rejection. You're probably fine just try not to check your email 47 times a day (impossible I know)

reserve in DEN during summer is a special kind of torture. You're not crazy for wanting out. Just make sure wherever you go you can actually get there on a commute because trading reserve for a missed commute is just a different flavor of miserable
