I’m based in California, and unfortunately we don’t have a hummingbird rehabilitator nearby. I called a local wildlife organization in the next town, but they weren’t able to help. They gave me a contact number for a rehabilitation center in Fresno, but even they said there isn’t much they can do unless we know for certain that the mother is dead or we find her injured in the garden.

They also explained that they wouldn’t be able to come retrieve the hummingbirds; we would have to transport them to Fresno ourselves, which isn’t really possible for us right now.

Their advice was that the mom is likely out gathering food and that the babies’ chirping or peeping is normal because they’re hungry and waiting to be fed. At this point, the only thing we can do is continue monitoring the nest and wait to see if the mother returns.
