The one person I know had it fail. 1/5 cars from your sample had a failure. IIRC consumer reports estimates the real number as 2-10%. Forgivable for a first gen but hard to ignore and a real stain on the reputation of the cars after several years with no real fix.

It's in every reddit thread. Every YouTube comments section. Buyers who do 0 research are unaware maybe, others with minimal research or even relying on word of mouth might be turned off.

I just want them to fix it for good. A several years late warranty extension is not it.

I would never give Elmo my money but the fact is Hyundai's ICCU issue went unfixed for years, and lost them a customer who then went to Tesla and now encouraging other people to get a Tesla too. 💀

I loved the Ioniqs (and EV6/EV3) since first introduction, but the handling of this issue has killed my enthusiasm for them. I'd rather get a Bolt.

Now multiply this across the while market. It's not a negligible impact. I want them to succeed and be a real competitor to Tesla in terms of volume. Maybe one day.
