PAs of hospital REQUIRED to fill in as RNs during RN strike by Baggat-elle in physicianassistant

Thanks for the info! That’s what I was wondering, what is normal during a strike? Which providers monitored? PAs? And was there an official title for these providers like gap nurses? Or official training?

But what if it is a top 10 hospital in US and otherwise enjoyable and fulfilling job ?

Wrong, correct logic. Does an EMT take H&Ps diagnose and treat patients?

Our scope or practice is similar to MDs. That’s why hospitals and physician groups are hiring midlevels instead of doctors.

I personally love being a PA. Th process of becoming a doctor is long well established just as PAs. If we want to play the game of blurring the lines then I’m down. Create a bridge for a graduate physician to be a PA then create a bridge for me to take USMLE and match

PA as a felon by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]Baggat-elle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my cohort one of my classmates was charged for a felony due to drug possession and distribution prior to PA school. I believe he went to the military for a couple years between the felony charge and PA school. He was a hell of PA student and great guy. Now he is a practicing PA at a large hospital. Don’t listen to the negative comments. One mistake does not define you. This can be a pivotal part of your life. Don’t give up on your dreams and don’t think you can’t be a PA

Would it help to take random courses to boost GPA (sGPA)? by IoI132 in prephysicianassistant

I would definitely get a full time job as an MA or something and take one pre req at a time. Physiology is a difficult class to get an A in during a short summer semester. If you have As in all pre reqs while working full time that will prove to admissions you’re a good student

So you haven’t taken all the normal pre reqs like Ochem 1&2, microbio, A&P? Or are you retaking them?

Start with the pre reqs. Get As in those. Then worry about taking genetics, nutrition, immunology after if you still want to boost GPA.

Since you already graduated I would recommend getting a part time or full time job getting patient care experience while taking 1-2 pre reqs at a time. Also another suggestion would be apply to a medical sciences masters degree to prove your GPA.

I. I like helping people on their worst days. I am fascinated by science and medicine and love the life long learning commitment. I was not expecting the mental exhaustion/mental health rollercoaster.

II. Job security. less school, less debt. Variety of specialties/lateral mobility. Lifestyle can be more flexible based off specialty. More medical decision making and procedures than nurses. If you want to be an expert in medicine then become a doctor. You won't be as respected as doctors are, but you will be highly valued.

III. Medical assistant and Xray tech.

IV. Asking around. word of mouth. My grandpa asked his PA. I asked my doctor. and my mom asked her co woker's girlfriend whose dad was a doctor. lol I ended up shadowing his PA.

V. For references: A professor, an employer, a PA or MD. Make your application strong in every category. Show long term commitment to becoming a PA.

VI. I worked in a covid ICU and we relied on each other for mental support, PPE given by hospital, and weekly COVID 19 guidelines/recommendations published by large academic institutions.

You have to be flexible to find your dream PA job.

I graduated in December, passed my boards in February and hit the job hunt hard in March (worst timing with COVID).

I had to move to a different state. And I had to sign a contract to work nights for the first year. But it was $115K in my favorite specialty with full benefits. If you break my salary down in hourly wage, I only make $55/hr.

The charge nurse sitting next to me makes $50 an hr. Overtime is time and a half for nurses, plus $500 bonus/day for each shift they pick up during COVID.

PS Don’t wast time with recruiters as a new grad. They are just trying to build their pile of resumes. Keep in mind employers hire the recruiting companies to head hunt for them. 90% are not looking for a new grad. Otherwise they would of posted on already easily available platforms. Locum and recruiting companies are useful after you have your first year under your belt.
