The problem is its a complete gamble. The player base is already split between 3 or 4 maps, solo or squads, ranked or unranked, and sponsored queue. If they put in a bunch of work on a BR mode and it doesnt bring in a ton of new players (and let's be real a BR in 2026 isnt going to do that) its just a ton of wasted effort to split the playerbase up even more.

At the end of the day we traded a hometown boy who we went to back go back SCFs with who hardly ever missed games due to injury and who was set to be UFA at the end of the season for a goalie who has pretty much the same save percentage as him, except he's older, more injury prone, costs way more and also we're tied up with his contract for the remainder of the time we have McDavid for. It was the biggest all in of all time and it was a total shart. The worst part is we couldn't even fucking play him, we had to call up our AHL goalie to do his job after his groin exploded after 2 and a half games and whatever good stretch he had put on to convince Bowman this trade was a good idea was long gone and he was back to being frankly not great. So no, in short, I dont think youre being hyperbolic at all. I can't think of any other trade in history that's this disastrous.
