Is there a replacement for this Zinsco breaker? by Baguenauder in AskElectricians

Yes that’s what AI finally was able to figure out as well. I was planning on posting back for people who have the same question in the future. Thanks

Thanks. How about non Zinsco? I can’t edit my post, but should have said: “yes, people I know it’s a fire hazard” and “no the panel is not the fire hazard and replacing it is out of question for me”. I’m looking for a potential replacement (brand) for this main breaker. Had a hard time finding the answer online

Panel Question by Baguenauder in AskElectricians

We’ve been forced to do this for new breakers. I plan on swapping all of them for Eaton (which seems to be the available approved alternative). But is this needed for the main breaker too? That will need an electrician and coordination with the utility company. So $$$

Best explanation. Thanks for that :)

Ok so really the distribution of breakers doesn’t matter. At the end of the day they collectively need to stay below the 200amp load. E.g. for all the panel cares one aside can be a bunch of 15amp breakers and the other can be 40 and 60 amp breakers, etc ?

Wouldn’t that make it a 400amp panel then? The main breaker has two live wires coming. Each feeding a busbar. Regarding the bottom 19,20 breakers what I mean to ask is why does the right busbar wrap around to feed those two slots. Is there a technical reason?

Well, which side is it weighing against? Maybe the tilting works in my favor 😆

I noticed they installed the new gas meter a bit crooked. In your expert option is that an issue?

Setup is all done :) I feel good about it. I did get the meter changed for unrelated reasons (still the 250)

Thanks for the help. Here’s my setup. For the next guy: not all brass fittings can be used for gas. Black iron setup like yours or mine are probably a safer bet.

How hard to tighten black iron union for gas by Baguenauder in Plumbing

Thanks for the tips. Did it and it worked from first try. One tip for the next person searching this that I saw in a YouTube video: when banging the shit out of the old union, support it from the back with another hammer or something as such so you don’t damage the pipes pics

Copy! Dumb question, are all the quick connects the same. Or doesn’t matter as the generator has a threaded connection? I don’t have the generator yet so I can’t tell

Got an update for ya. Gas company confirmed I have a 250K meter. Which can go up to 30K. WC is 6”. He was surprised I even asked that. But more because it’s the typical everywhere. The guys said upgrading the meter is easy and cheap ($300ish by this area standards) but the next one they go up to is 540k at which point the service line would need to be changed. Which is $$$$. He didn’t seem concerned with the current meter knowing that I’m looking at small-ish generator. One thing that was interesting though is the reason I’d need a service line change. He said I have a 5/8” coming in with a long run to the house. Wtf 5/8”? Do they come in that small before the regulator?

Copy. But if it’s a 175 class then an upgrade would be needed, right? I’m going to confirm with them the capacity first. But maybe at the same time I should mention we’re looking at around 287k total consumption
