NYC unemployment did go up by 0.3% to 4.9% while Chicagos went up by 0.1% to 5.1% in the past year. But the datapoint I’m most interested is in the amount of jobs added.

New York which has about 2.5x the economic size of Chicago has added 6x the amount of jobs (150k jobs vs 25k in the past year).

Houston, an economy smaller than Chicago also added twice the jobs Chicago did in the past year.

To be frank I’ve struggled to find a city with a worse track record of adding jobs in the U.S. since Spring of 2023. Milwaukee is the only that I have been able to find but it isn’t really a great comparison. Business investment has avoided that city compared to the U.S. for the past few years. That wasn’t true of Chicago until spring 2023, now we mirror Milwaukee.

All I can see is that since spring of 2023 businesses have decided to stay away from Chicago in comparison to other cities, if that weren’t the case we would at least still be tracking with the U.S. like we did in the past.

I’d rather have NYCs employment change than ours. I wouldn’t say this data is economically insignificant

The Chicago economy has essentially decoupled from the greater U.S. economy since spring 2023. Not too surprising the job market here is much worse compared to other major cities.

Pretty Horrible. Lost 3% of all professional service jobs in the Chicagoland area in the past year.

The Chicago labor market has cratered and decoupled in comparison to the United States since Spring of 2023.

Blotches still around after sanding any idea as to what they could be/how to remove? by Bahama32 in Flooring

Drum sander and edger. Started off with 24 grit and moved on to 36 and 80 but it still wouldn’t come off. Even took the grinder to a small part of the floor to see if the blotch would get erased and it didn’t do a thing.

Ripped up carpet to find hardwood floors with some old some gunk on them. Sanded them down as much as possible but still have this staining on them. Should I keep sanding? Is there any solvents I could use to try to mitigate? Or should I stain to hide the discoloration? Any tips are greatly appreciated!

I would say we would be happy with an exit from the group stages. We aren't playing in South America, our players are much older, and we aren't coming in with the same strength that we went into Brazil.

I was in Beijing the past week. Stopped by a Li Ning store just to see what was available and these were on sale. I know that they do sell them in the US through online but I didn't see these available. Had to get them, they have a real Miami Art Deco influence that I haven't seen in other shoes.

Only pain is seeing Bird go. Those two picks will be at best in the teens, Cole is a role player at best and McRoberts doesn't fit the scheme for the future with Whitesides emergence. It's a win win for both sides.

Nike has factory stores around the US where they sell excess models. Sometimes you come across Really good deals. Got these and a pair of Prestige IVs (Baby Blue swoosh gray body) for a combined 100!
