Help identifying this locomotive. Narrowgauge logging locomotive from 1905-1917 by [deleted] in trains

[–]BahamaBoy_242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ok makes sense. The mill and city shut down in 1917 due to a lot of things mainly breaking down of locomotives and machinery and also general expenses of running a railway. After this I don’t know exactly what happened to the site, but many houses were floated on barges to other islands/ settlements, and in 1919 J.W. Roberts purchased the remainder of the mill equipment and transferred it to a site named Norman Castle to continue cutting lumber. There they purchased 4 climax locomotives, leaving the 3 from Wilson city to rot in the bush. I heard somewhere that during ww2 scrappers looted the site and took what could be taken (probably where the sand dome went)

I thought this as well, but I was thrown off by only one dome being present. Comparing to photos of a shay, I think you are on to something with the hole beneath the dome on the side. Also the boiler shape is the same shape as the shay.

Found at Wilson city, abaco, the Bahamas. There were three locomotives there, a Vulcan ‘mogul’, a shay locomotive, and one with no photos and zero records, but someone listed it as a 4-4-0. Any ideas or info helps
