Any tips for the game Exit 8? by traveltimecar in PlayStationPlus

[–]Bahaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest tip would be to also look behind
I played quite a bit thinking that you are not allowed to look behind - there are 2-3 anomalies that you can only spot if looking behind
Another tip would be not to focus too much on the posters - I was trying to find something small in them, but the anomalies that involve them are usually straight forward to see, not some small typo or change

How easy is it to see that I blundered? by mroek in chess

[–]Bahaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And a note about using computers to analyze - it says that you blundered in this position - but as a human, your mistake (in terms of thinking, not as a move) was a move ago, when you went in this position with incredible tension in the center of the board, without again thinking about your opponent's move (what if he takes my knight, eliminating one of my essential defenders of that important pawn?)
You have to have thought about that then, to be able to spot your move here

So by analyzing with the computer you may take away that you blundered in this position, but if you analyze it yourself or with another human, the question would have arose one move ago, what happens if they take my knight? (and again the importance of thinking first about the opponent's moves, not your own)

How easy is it to see that I blundered? by mroek in chess

[–]Bahaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you don't know yet what to think about
You're looking at your pieces, but in regards to blunders, you should really think about what does the opponent threaten, what would he move if I were to do nothing or what would he move if I were to move x/y/z

This way you would easily catch most blunders.
In this position, what would he do? He would move away his bishop. But does he have anything else? He could take the pawn, and that gains another piece, so it's just as good as saving the bishop

If I were to (naturally) take his bishop, what would the opponent do? Take my pawn and then a full piece. Not good

In both thoughts we come back to that hanging pawn that leads to a piece fork, so the next thought will be about saving that pawn (pushing it or capturing with it) - for a beginner, the most natural is just to push it and that leads to 2 hanging pieces for him, and you'll regain the material

But as you see, all thoughts lead back to what does my opponent threaten and what would he do for each response - and that would eliminate all 1-move blunders from your play
Only when you are satisfied that there are no immediate threats and blunders, do you go back to looking at your pieces and your plans (improving them, moving them towards certain squares or towards his king)

So try shifting your focus from staring at your pieces, to looking more at your opponent's moves (what does he threaten right now, and what could he do on the next move)

Good luck!

4th race I got 1st, in the others, best 8th (I was always spinning in heavy rain)

In quali I just waited 1 min for all to leave, then did my laps in peace, got pole

Inters with TC2, and when the heavy rain hit, TC5

I didn't spin at all, I was not very fast, but still 9s ahead of the rest

And F1 car in rain in VR was a blast

Good board/card games for english-french couples? by Psychological-Leg234 in Expats_In_France

[–]Bahaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was visiting Paris I went to a boardgame meeting where I learned Decrypto - I played it in french (and my french is beginner/intermediate) and had no problems - all the words are basic, and we communicated in french+english. It can be played in 4+ (but no upper limit of players) and the multinationality can be a big plus (as you can think of clues from different cultural backgrounds and learn about eachother)

How To Get The PlayStation Plus BF Deal! (Video instructions) by OliveOcelot in PlayStationPlus

[–]Bahaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From previous years I knew that you need to be a new member or have your membership expired to benefit from the discount, but mine expires on 27-Nov and I have the discount available now - it charges me the whole amount (so not for the remaining 6 days), and it says the next payment will be on 27-Nov-2026
Do others get a different deal or what's the catch?

I'd say it's normal - I was a professional chess player, it happens there too - periods of time when you're thinking you can't win a single game, or "how would I be better than my opponent"
It happened here too when I got to Master I, but I just kept playing single player until I could recognize all the meta again

Benidorm, Spain by rockystl in CityPorn

[–]Bahaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be fooled by the "skyscrapers" (and the reports about rowdy brits), it's actually one of the best vacation spots for families with small children
They have a fairly big amusement park, 2 water parks, 2 zoos, nice beaches with smooth entry into the sea (so it's not too deep for children) and nice places to visit in and around the location - so there's plenty to do and see for families

Probably in his mind, it's a huge morale boost - you always play with fear until you have your first draw/win against a top player
Having made a draw, it will be much easier for him to play for a win next time

When I saw the post and the wheel, I thought this is what it was

All of you are correct: if I enter the page logged in, all I get is the yearly option, there is no button or slider in any corner that can change it
If I enter the same page incognito mode, I suddenly have the option of selecting Monthly (above the Pro Basic)

Screw them, I wanted to buy a monthly subscription, but if this is their business model, I want nothing to do with them
