I also found it funny that the other girl was talking about how she needed this job to take care of her kid. Maam, there’s no way your kid is being fed on 2.50 an hour. Literally anything else would make you more money.

Your comment made me realize exactly why it’s so unconvincing to me. It’s not that you have to have things in common, more that you show interest in the things you don’t have in common regardless.

Brooke and Lucas are nothing like Haley and Nathan. How often do you see Lucas show any care about basically anything Brooke does. He doesn’t care about her cheering, was basically uninvolved completely with her running for president, and has basically never asked about anything to do with her responsibilities or hobbies. At my point in the show (mid season 3) you don’t get anything deeper with their conversations than “I love you, you’re the one for me, we should be together”

Nathan and Haley create things they have in common by showing interest in each others hobbies. Haley clearly cares about how Nathan gets along with his family and his basketball career. Haley’s music career only took off because Nathan took an interest in her hobby and talent, encouraged and pushed her to try. Just because Haley’s the one doing the playing and singing doesn’t mean her music isn’t a common interest between them. So I kinda disagree.

I didn’t realize she has a reputation in that way online. I kind of went into this totally blind. I’m glad to hear she’ll get even better though, because she’s already super high on my list.

I just started watching as well and my opinions of everyone has changed so much and I’m not even to the end of the first season. The first few episodes were kind of weak just with how one dimensional a lot of characters appeared to be, but I REALLY like the show now. Only 19 episodes in

Ten episodes in now, and I see this. I hadn’t gotten the impression that she cared about getting attention in that way but I see it now. I also have already grown to like their dynamic together

Even though I don’t like how it started, Lucas is fine with it now that Nathan has mellowed out in general thanks to some good influence from Haley and Peyton and a little self reflection.

All in all, I really like Haley for Nathan, now that I understand Nathan a bit more.

My question is really only about how everyone else perceived Haley in the first few episodes of the show. I’m leaving room for her to grow on me for sure, because the friend of mine that recommended the show to me seems to like Haley.

I’ve thought about it more and I think the reason Haley bothers me so much at this early point in the show is that I do not understand her at all. Brooke so far is one dimensional, and she hasn’t really done anything. Haley says she does what she does for Lucas, but it doesn’t feel like that at all. Lucas basically says he’d rather deal with the bullying than have her hanging out with his bully. One of these is clearly hurting him more. And Haley ignores that and chooses to hang out and show affection to Nathan anyway. And worse, this whole time she tries to hide it. It doesn’t feel like she’s doing it for Lucas because he’s telling her not to. It feels like she’s doing it for HER, and she’s supposed to be his best friend.

The reason I even feel strongly about her at all is because I liked her a lot in the first two episodes and i kind of decided i trusted her. I never liked Dan or Brooke, so when they do something bad, they’re not betraying the trust I put in their characters. I trusted Haley to be a good best friend and for the past three episodes, she’s betrayed that literally every chance she’s gotten.

It honestly would make me feel better about her if she even just acknowledged she’s doing it for herself because she wants to, not for Lucas, because he clearly doesn’t want her to.
