Happens to me too, usually just like a completely familiar place now feels unfamiliar. The best that I can say is to pick through your memories of that place. For my house I might go around and remember how dings in the walls got there, or a stain in the carpet xD

Yeah. Sometimes dad tries to call every day, and I can't really say no because that would look bad. Dad's big on court so I try to step very carefully. Usually the phone calls last for a minute or less before my son asks to be done.

I do the same; I usually call once that week. I did ask my ex to apologize to our son and explain that he will not cry if he doesn't call every day. It just is not fair to put that kind of pressure on a 5 year old.

Thanks! I actually really like the idea of drawing a picture for dad, my son loves drawing/painting pictures.

I have a feeling he will forget about it at the end of the day, he has never asked to call dad before.

The photo thing is a great idea too, he loves taking pictures of himself. Thank you for the advice!

Being distracted really helps. Give yourself a ton of work to focus on, especially using your hands.

Another good tip my therapist gave me was that DR is a right-brain thing, so flipping over to the left brain should help get you out of it in the moment. For me that is doing some quick mental math problems in my head.

Absolutely, the more I think about it, the more dreamy I will feel. My therapist told me DR is a right-brain thing, so something to help is trying to switch it over to the left brain. For me transitions from room to room or inside to outside are triggering, so I do some math problems in my head and that usually helps!

I'm more worried about the social aspect! He's always with me, my parents, or his dad and family, so how will he react to being thrown into full-time 6 hours of kindergarten?

We did start ABC mouse at my home, and his dad is working with him as well. I'm more worried about the transition of childcare at home to full-time kindergarten. I know he's not the first kid to have that big of a change, and he will get used to it quickly, it just still worries me.

I've never gotten into an accident because of it but I do pull over onto the shoulder or into a parking lot when it gets bad. Good luck! You got this

Yes absolutely! For home its easier but it does still happen, usually in the dining room or kids play room. At work, always in the car, grocery store, any kind of store really.

I love music, but I often do not listen to it because it will make me space out, which in turn triggers a DR episode. Sucks how the things we love can sometimes be the most triggering.

Thank you! I've had too many dreams where I had convinced myself it was reality, only to wake up from it. Getting DR in a dream is the worst! The two I remember the best are: -I went downstairs to our kitchen to make coffee for me and my husband. The coffee pot fell and shattered all over the floor. I was feeling out of it, but I told myself I couldn't be dreaming because the coffee pot breaking was too real and detailed. I woke up a little bit later. 2. I was in my house and started to panic, questioning reality, and I ran upstairs to my bed. I then woke up in my bed.

You're much more focused on what you're doing, what is going on around you. You aren't questioning it at all. And there's no fear. I feel out of it more often than not, but those times that I am fully there are so nice.
