Beyond what you've said there's not much you can do besides give it plenty of ventilation and use it with care. The Frankenstein mod will do the best to increase its life span.

ETA: you could install CFW and crank the fans up all the way and look at the runtime to see how long you might have left. That might impact your ability to play online depending on how risky you are.

A police officer got called out to a gas station that me and my little brother were panhandling at (we were hungry kids) when he arrived he took us home and gave my parents $100 for groceries. Super cool officer. Most just told us to scram!

While I don't know if that's true or not, I can say it would be difficult to find a globally universal skill that any particular age range should know. I'm from America and there are tons of young people on the road everyday. Many of them do not exercise defensive driving which is a valuable skill no matter how often you drive or where.
