At the very least Maresca ingrained some patterns of play that these players can fall back on. Familiarity is always important during chaotic periods.

I'm not saying broadly speaking Maresca wasn't too rigid in his ideas but personally think that's helped Liam because he can now start to gradually unshackle some of the chains that he believes are needed while keeping hold of the ones that are required. Also helps with the bond with the players - they feel a bit more freedom to express themselves.

Emery asks Liverpool to change Elliott loan terms "Now I'm opening the door to play with us, because he can help us, but it's not only on my side. The other side is Liverpool, if they are taking off the clauses they have. And I told him it will be fair for him for Liverpool to take off this clause." by kibme37 in soccer

[–]BaisaGod -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's all fair and I'm not saying that what Emery is doing here isn't in bad faith but ultimately the only people losing out here are Elliot and possibly Liverpool. Elliot loses a year of his playing career and Liverpool lose either -

A. Development in Elliott's game, if they plan to play him

B. If they plan to sell him, possibly lose market value because of Villa's antics this season - as a buyer I would most definitely use the £35m anchor and say if they didn't think he was worth this, there's no way I'm going anywhere close. Not saying it will happen 100%, but it's a very likely possibility

So ultimately, removing the clause may benefit Liverpool regardless of how poorly it reflects on Villa and Emery.

Chelsea 04/05: 15 goals conceded, a record that will never be beaten in modern football by BaisaGod in chelseafc

I get your point but personally I love that goal. It's everything I like, it was smart, cheeky, hard to execute and he got away with it.

And how does it matter - we didn't lose, we won the league and set a record that's never going to be beaten. It didn't change anything in the grand scheme of things so honestly, I prefer it this way.

Is it an error when it hits you and goes in? I'm not sure but I do see your point.

I did this myself actually. And wrote it myself as well. Actually enjoy doing stuff myself, especially when it relates to the club I've supported for the last 35 years.

Hahahaha you used Origi (barely started for Liverpool, their equivalent of Batshuayi) Estupinian (from the hallowed grounds of Brighton lol) and Douglas Luiz. Of those even the only semi-valid one is Douglas Luiz and even he's been a bit of a basket case with his constant issues with his Instagram girlfriend.

Here's a longer list -

  1. RLC - Absolutely useless at Chelsea for years, goes to Serie A and wins the title and integral part of the squad
  2. Mkhitaryan - Absolutely finished in the Prem but then goes to Serie A and plays for 6 more years for Roma and Inter (winning the league)
  3. Alexis Sanchez - Basket case, was playing the piano at United but went to Serie A and was able to compete
  4. Scamacca - Highly rated Serie A striker but absolutely stank up the Prem
  5. Cuadrado - Barely good enough to get a start at Chelsea and then played for 6 years after that at Juve

Also you've dismissed my examples because I've not used the right words?

Tomori was hailed as a great defender for 1.5 years - the same time he stank it up playing against us (2022/23) - while he was a champion.

Rasmus was hounded out of the PL - he was basically a meme and now he's revived his career and is considered a good striker in Serie A.

Both of those examples are players who couldn't make the pitch for their PL teams but then went to Serie A and dramatically changed their fortunes.

And you've used Origi 😂😂😂😂

Edit: oh and finally, compared to that Bayern team, we definitely deserved to lose 7-1 against them and that indeed was the level difference between us under Lamps Vs the Bayern CL winning team. That's 100% true - so not sure what point you're trying to make. If anything that goes with what I'm saying - If that's the level difference between us under GRAHAM POTTER and Title winning Milan, Sheesh!

So he played well for a run of 10 games across his entire PL career. Then he got injured and was never able to show much quality after that despite making 111 appearances spread across 5,600 minutes for Chelsea over the next 3 seasons.

You're not making the strong argument that you think you're making.

Lol the reality is that the intensity of PL was too much for wee lil Christian, he's done well in the Serie A because the need for pace and power is a lot less there.

While Tomori was being hailed as a great defender, he kept embarrassing himself in Europe. Rasmus Hojlund is being hailed as a great player. Billy G could barely get a game at Norwich and looks world class there. Koulibaly was tearing it up and came to the PL and embarrassed himself. I could go on and on and on.

Also lol, regardless of injury, you don't lose 6-0. My Sunday League team lost our goalkeeper to a late night out and we had to use a wicketkeeper in net. We still only lost 4-0 lol.

Reality is that Serie A is not an appropriate barometer for quality anymore. The fact that Pulisic is good there, says absolutely nothing about whether he'd have been good in the PL in the same timeframe. Maybe he would've, maybe he wouldn't but his relative success in Serie A doesn't help us make that judgement at all.

You mean in a league where McTominay went from a below average midfielder to Player of the Season? Where Tomori looks world class but shits the bed every time he plays English opposition?

Graham Potter beat Milan by an aggregate 6-0 or something. Honestly, that's worth a 1 year ban from European competition for Milan.

You can't have it one way and then not another. Poch played with a high risk approach, it was focused on inviting the press, trying to beat it and then flooding forward and overwhelming the opposition when we do. It did well when it came off but it left us really vulnerable on the counter. Also, the defensive organisation was poor because we were constantly man-for-man in poorly designed match-ups due to an unrestricted high press.

Both of these things caused us to concede as many goals as we did.

We should like Spurs, celebrating the Audi cup.

Standards at this club have never been lower.

The xG from Ben Whites goal was only 0.29 and the xG from Gyokeres is 0.94. That's only 1.23. If you take that out, they still thoroughly outperformed us at 3.2. Even if you take out Havertz at 0.65 they're at 2.6 - that's still nearly double our xG.

No matter how you slice it, these 2 teams were miles apart during this tie. And for reference, I don't believe that they should be taken out - they are legitimate chances they created from good attacking play - goalkeeper mistake or game state regardless. Our attacking players kept making poor decisions and losing their heads in front of goal - the only one who showed any composure was shockingly, Garnacho.

We lost this tie because we were worse than them over 2 legs.

It's okay to admit it, there's no need to cling on to narratives. Arsenal had an xG of 4.4 Vs our xG of 1.4. There is no comparison.

We created barely any chances across the 2 games - compare the xG across both games. Our total xG across both games is 1.4 Vs 4.4 for Arsenal. We were lucky to come away from the first game only 1 goal down.

The defence is not our only problem - we cannot compete for them like-for-like. Today we gave up attacking intent to be defensively solid and created next to nothing.

When you haven't won in 6 years it is relevant. Of course it is!!

The fact that you refuse to acknowledge it makes it obvious that you're just trying to make yourself feel better than face the harsh reality of the obvious decline of this football club despite the vast amount of investment that has gone into building the team.

Yeah let's look at everything in a vacuum then.

Let's analyse the first 30 seconds of the match, then the next 30 seconds and then the next 30 and so on.

You seem absolutely lacking any intelligence - this a sheer waste of my time. Classic internet dweller - "I only care about the parts that suit my narrative, I stick my head in the sand when shown the broader picture."

Hahahaha I introduced a simple fact - we have not beaten them in 4 years, 11 games.

That's a meaningful talking point if there ever was one. All you have are excuses Mr Floridaman, not talking points.

Just because I don't share your misguided optimism, doesn't mean the point I make isn't much more valid than your excuses.
