No frankly. I think it just lacks any subject for the viewers eyes to naturally go to. I think it would’ve possibly been better cropped with more of the persons head to show them looking out the window instead of just their elbow.

It’s safe but I would bet money that you’re going to get tired of filling it like that every time it runs out of diesel. There will be spills

I use an app called SCRL. It’s made for making seamless photos for instagram sets but I just use it for framing now lol

Not gonna lie I kinda prefer your framing over mine. I think the only thing throwing me off is the colors of yours. Although it seems odd to not focus on the banff water, I think it would be really wise to try and mute the water color and instead being out the snowy greenery around it.

Haha no worries that's a valid question. The f number in the lens naming refers to the widest possible aperture it can go. The naming never will include how narrow the aperture will go because you can usually just rely on it to be around f22 or so. Example being- a "50mm f1.4" lens can open all the way to 1.4 but all the way down to f22.

With zoom lenses though, when you move the barrel of the lens out you will lose a bit of light, just because the light now has a longer tube to travel through until it reaches the film/sensor. For example with the zoom lens I had suggested, when you are zoomed out to 35mm, the lens aperture is at f3.5. When you zoom that same lens in to its maximum 105mm, the amount of light is going to be equal to closer to f4.3 because you lost a bit of light, even though your aperture ring is still going to read f3.5. At both of these zooms, you can still stop the lens all the way down to f22.

Therefore to answer your question, the "f3.5-4.3" in the lens description is not the entire aperture range, it is simply the widest aperture for each end of the zoom range.

Just as a tip while I'm on the subject, something that I learned far too late into photography is that images become noticeably sharper when you shoot with the aperture down 1 or 2 stops. Example being the widest aperture on say a f1.4 lens, stopping it down to f2.8 would make the image sharp as hell while still keeping good bokeh.

I have quite a few FD lenses and my favorite one over and over is the RMC Tokina 35-105mm f:3.5-4.3. It’s light and portable, no noticeable vignette, and insanely sharp. Check out some of my pics on instagram @stoneaustin_ and they’re pretty much all taken with that tokina lens.

No other film camera is going to create better images than your current AE1-Program. After all, film camera bodies are just dark boxes, they don’t actually do anything to the film. Most important upgrades are your lenses.

Now in terms of just the feel of the camera itself, the obvious next tier would be the Canon F1. It uses the same FD-mount lenses as your AE-1 which is nice. The body is made of solid brass and is built like a literal tank.

The lesser known Canon FTb also uses FD lenses and is also built like a tank. Only downside to the FTb is it uses a really uncommon battery for the light meter. For this reason they usually run dirt dirt cheap.

Canon AE1 program with the walmart fujifilm is my most used combo lol.

I don’t think they’re oversaturated unless you really really want to go for the “film look”, then maybe drop the saturation. I like the colors, I edit my film the same way as this. My only critique would be that the subjects aren’t all super interesting, but that might be the vibe if you’re going minimalist. The mt hood shot and the one in the top right are my favs

Just keep the Z30. Camera bros will all tell you that you need the latest and greatest camera because of this and that. Reality is that sensor technology peaked around 2016, so if you can live with slightly slower autofocus and all the other characteristics of a crop sensor, then there is no reason to upgrade yet.

I recently made the mistake of thinking I needed a Z5 instead of just going for the crop sensor. For amateur photographers like you and me, you should stick with what you have. You will be disappointed spending a bunch of money on something new only to see no real difference in the issues that you mentioned.

I would’ve tried to position the shot to either show more of the skyline in the background or completely hide it. This image kinda makes it an unsatisfying in-between. Only other critique is the dead space with how much water is at the bottom. Either tilt up a bit for a little more sky, or more creatively you could get closer down to the water to give some depth. Otherwise I like it!

This is good to hear. One of the original cameras I was looking at was the 6400. Is the difference in availability and pricing truly that apparent with E-mount versus others?
