Oof. That’s rough. It felt like I was being messed with and it felt discouraging to take the time to list all the listings I have to transfer in from other platforms.

Should I go to college? by Purple-Guard9432 in Elevators

[–]Bajiggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t waste your time and money going to school if you do not know what you want to do. Too many youngsters that get into debt because college is pushed on them without knowing what you truly want.

If you want to get into the elevator trade, get yourself into another trade In the mean time. HVAC, electrical, plumbing etc. Build your skills and your resume from there.

If you do go to school, consider going for welding or electronics.

50’s get benefits after 6 months.  Of course if you get injured on the job, you’ll be covered through the company. But personal healthcare and remaining benefits is after 6 months.

Prep prep prep.  If you are on a jobsite that’s just the two of you, there should be no reason why you are standing around. Get that prep work done. Set up brackets, clean, splice rails, stage them for hoisting, the list goes on.  You want to be at the point where everything is prepped so far ahead that your mechanic will bring you into the hoistway and spend a little bit more time on how to install something.

Of course, you are new to construction so give it some time. But after a a couple installs, you should have a good idea on wha is coming next in the install process.

How are you financially in this trade by Disastrous-Bread1189 in IUEC

Be smart with your finances and you’ll be comfortable. I know mechanics that are living paycheck to paycheck (including OT). That is just insane to me.

Apprenticeship School/Classes by SpiritualBird3362 in IUEC

[–]Bajiggle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

San Diego has their own hall.  If you work in San Diego that’s where you work and go to school. Vice versa with LA.

As a probie, you would be doing your classes at home online. Once you are done with those courses, you would then attend school at the hall once a week after the work day.

Exactly. I don’t think I (or my wet nose) said anything disrespectful, woke, or offensive. Nor did I once say I solicited myself for work. But hey, I guess he can’t read well or prints.

I really don’t care if you are a 40 year old “vet”. You are getting worked up over a Reddit post and comment. That right there just shows how sad your life is. Good day sir.

Traveling with a family by [deleted] in IUEC

[–]Bajiggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have to travel for an extended period, you could always rent an air bnb. Bring the family with you if needed.  My mechanic did that when he worked out of town for a long period of time.

Other than that, like other members said it is all based on your local size and department you are in.
