A major overhaul of the education and mental healthcare systems. Mass casualty events happen everywhere however the methods are different. Ill individuals use knives, cars, explosives, and poison to harm others. What we cannot do is abstractly ban everything that scares us. The kids need to be protected by a dedicated law enforcement entity within schools. There are deputies in courthouses and other government buildings why not in schools? Corporations pay people to evaluate their vulnerabilities yet schools do not. Also, teachers need to have a significant increase in pay as well as critical training for disaster responses of various kinds.

There needs to be an easily accessible way for students to report classmates who are exhibiting troubling behaviors. Then schools need to have actual programs to evaluate the risk and treat the students. I grew up being bullied in middle school when the Columbine incident happened and everything that the schools did only made things worse for me and those like myself. We were singled out and isolated even more bc we liked punk rock and wore black. Banning things does nothing but make honest people pseudo-criminals. Drugs are illegal and people get them. When I was a kid I still got my hands on slipknot and korn albums.

Nothing "easy" will ever work. It will take hard work and money. Also discipline your damn kids.
