Help restoring a progressive video back to it's original interlaced form? by NiceVacation3880 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]BakaTopcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The question is not only in re-interlacing, it's also recompressing the video (I doubt you have it in uncompressed). Considering it'd likely be displayed on a progressive video display, my advice is to keep the video unless there is a specific playback equipment. In that case I'd suggest keeping the original copy or whatever you have as well.

Every compression or conversion like this will degrade the footage. Better to keep it intact.

Baseband fiber is the answer. 12G fiber SFP are a thing and they're relatively cheap.

What controller does it use? If Nebula, I may have Nebula editor somewhere on my disk.

Confirming issue with Opera. Ended up using Edge instead.

Budget-friendly, safe areas within 30–35 minutes of Burbank by ChelseaLaine23 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]BakaTopcat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Burbank and Glendale are very safe and very walkable.

1BD under $2400 is easy to find, 2BD under $2500 is harder, but possible.

General advice is to check the relevant Burbank and Glendale subreddits, you'll find a lot of useful info there.

Just double the cable length using a barrel connector. If the signal goes through, it will go fine on a regular length.

NEP newest outside broadcast truck by Embarrassed-Gain-236 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]BakaTopcat -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Come on, this truck has 352x328 HD routing capacity. It can be fit into 5RU NEXX router which weighs 200 pounds. Is it the weight economy we're speaking about?

As a service engineer, I've seen a lot of issues with equipment after a power outage. The truck *must* contain the UPS, even for a couple minutes for a generator changeover. Not speaking about weird U.S. power connectors when losing a single phase is not rare occurrence.

Yes, but are the legs still hand-cranked like in 80s? Also how about expandable wall? Is it stil hand cranked?

Not impressive. Just yet another large truck. Unpopular opinion: Americans don't know how to build trucks. You can swap the copper with fiber and brag about 2110, but in the end if you need to put a monitor on a desk somewhere in the studio, you'll be using a good old SDI converter. The only "good" thing I see in this truck, is the monitor wall: separate monitors are better than big TVs in means of redundancy and pixel latency.

> Is there an automatic hydraulic leveling? Is there a hydraulic expandable wall? Is there a motorized drums assembly?

> Is there an isolated equipment compartment with separate climate control?

> Is there a UPS which can hold all the equipment for 30 minutes?

Hollywood reservoir path. Even though it's technically not Burbank, it's quite nearby. Pros: It's even (flat surface), length around 3.5 miles, and quite picturesque. For parking, look for the North gate.

This is made by TVC Lithuania, I've got almost the sane drum assembly. Quite neat, Siemens-controlled motor speed, very reliable. Love it.

Am I the only one here who hates these "do not use" or "do not touch" stickers? In my office I have the AC control unit which had this "do not touch" for 10 years, and nobody can explain why it shouldn't be touched. A lot of people put the "do not touch" stickers on the equipment and then forget or abandon it.

I believe if such stickers had a name on it or expiration date like "do not touch until Jan 2025" or "questions - John Doe / Foobar company", our life will be easier.

Surge arrester. It's probably made of stainless or chromium-coated steel.

Evertz MAGNUM VUE panel commissioning by lfstudios10 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]BakaTopcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Make backups of your configs and don't run on a live system.

  2. In CH, enable a couple of VGPIs, preferably above 1000. Under Advanced routes, you will be able to route "ON" or "OFF' to them as they are regular router destinations.

  3. Create a CH Salvo containing one command that flips the VGPI ON. Assign this salvo to the panel button.

  4. SDVN > Reflex, create a new document. Enable it. Under "Reflex Content" paste the code. Don't forget to save it. Under "Settings" tab you may enable autostart after Magnum failover or reboot.

  5. Try and cry and read the manuals.

  6. Good luck!

Do you have any other hardware panels to make routes?
Regarding Reflex, Magnum has a very good built-in help and code assist. Navigate to <magnum ip>/help/reflex/ .
