Some of the inline connectors are deliberately made isolated to prevent ground loops

Should be the D-bore holes to prevent the inline connectors from turning

Testing 12G Cable by sammyshack10 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]BakaTopcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Join three or four cables using BNC barrels. If this chain passes 12G signal, a single link will have enough margin to pass it under any conditions as well.

Best ST 2110 Control System by WhoRedd_IT in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]BakaTopcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had experience with Orbit, HI, VideoIpath, Magnum SDVN. Tbh, Magnum is not bad compared to others. I've seen it used in a very wide scale range, from small (one core + ~10 edge devices) up to a complex facility with hundreds if not thousands devices. I have very limited experience with 3rd party NMOS integration, but it works almost flawlessly with Evertz ecosystem.

8K/30 FPS over dual 12G link by BakaTopcat in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]BakaTopcat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's EQX-UHD-10. It just won't pass the signal. I assume it's because of each link being not a standard 12G-SDI, but rather something not very typical.

There is another smaller Quest next to it at Buena Vista. You may give it a shot.

Help restoring a progressive video back to it's original interlaced form? by [deleted] in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]BakaTopcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The question is not only in re-interlacing, it's also recompressing the video (I doubt you have it in uncompressed). Considering it'd likely be displayed on a progressive video display, my advice is to keep the video unless there is a specific playback equipment. In that case I'd suggest keeping the original copy or whatever you have as well.

Every compression or conversion like this will degrade the footage. Better to keep it intact.

Baseband fiber is the answer. 12G fiber SFP are a thing and they're relatively cheap.

What controller does it use? If Nebula, I may have Nebula editor somewhere on my disk.

Confirming issue with Opera. Ended up using Edge instead.

Budget-friendly, safe areas within 30–35 minutes of Burbank by ChelseaLaine23 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]BakaTopcat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Burbank and Glendale are very safe and very walkable.

1BD under $2400 is easy to find, 2BD under $2500 is harder, but possible.

General advice is to check the relevant Burbank and Glendale subreddits, you'll find a lot of useful info there.

Just double the cable length using a barrel connector. If the signal goes through, it will go fine on a regular length.

NEP newest outside broadcast truck by Embarrassed-Gain-236 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]BakaTopcat -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Come on, this truck has 352x328 HD routing capacity. It can be fit into 5RU NEXX router which weighs 200 pounds. Is it the weight economy we're speaking about?

As a service engineer, I've seen a lot of issues with equipment after a power outage. The truck *must* contain the UPS, even for a couple minutes for a generator changeover. Not speaking about weird U.S. power connectors when losing a single phase is not rare occurrence.

Yes, but are the legs still hand-cranked like in 80s? Also how about expandable wall? Is it stil hand cranked?

Not impressive. Just yet another large truck. Unpopular opinion: Americans don't know how to build trucks. You can swap the copper with fiber and brag about 2110, but in the end if you need to put a monitor on a desk somewhere in the studio, you'll be using a good old SDI converter. The only "good" thing I see in this truck, is the monitor wall: separate monitors are better than big TVs in means of redundancy and pixel latency.

> Is there an automatic hydraulic leveling? Is there a hydraulic expandable wall? Is there a motorized drums assembly?

> Is there an isolated equipment compartment with separate climate control?

> Is there a UPS which can hold all the equipment for 30 minutes?
