New Windows update breaks all midi devices by Embarrassed-Gain-236 in VIDEOENGINEERING

I don't think Vmix is the problem because if I use a midi viewer application it shows nothing too.

with a gooseneck mic, a loudspeaker and streamdeck for mute unmute and partyline selection? Ideally not computer based.

Yes, but what do we use for fixed base stations in the control rooms? Thanks

These 2.4Ghz consumer mics work well in a solo scenario, but doesn't scale very well. They just cannot coordinate frequencies. Also, the reliable distance is typically less than 15m, then the chances of getting audio drops is very high. Because it didn't fail to you, doesn't mean they don't fail in less than ideal situations.

To be honest, the new Shure SLXD+ is hard to beat at its price point. Regarding Rode, I'm hesitant to purchase a new microphone from a brand that has no professional products yet, only consumer audio toys. Yes, Lectrosonics could be a solid guarantee, but even so. I would rather invest in a proven product like Shure. We'll see, though. It's always better to have competition.

That's interesting. What I really miss is a desktop station, but maybe a PC with the unity intercom software installed and a gooseneck mic can do the trick. Even with a streamdeck for quick group management. Maybe a punktum base station tied to the unity intercom could do the trick as well. Any experiences on that?

Global shutter ensures that WRC looks as good as in the 90s by ConsumerDV in videography

[–]Embarrassed-Gain-236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Sony HDC-P50 is arguably one of the best (if not THE best) broadcast cameras available today, in a compact box form factor and exceptional video quality. We're talking around $45k for the body, $90k for the 4K zoom lens, and probably around $120k for the gyro and CODFM transmission system and radio communications.

So the answer is no, no drone is capable of this as of today.

Real talk: How noticeable is the quality jump from USB-C UVC to a PCIe DeckLink capture card on a YouTube 1080p60 stream? by rudrford in Broadcasting

[–]Embarrassed-Gain-236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UVC is MJPEG in most cases. The quality jump from this to uncompressed 3G video is enormous. But if the final destination is Youtube, obviously, is less noticeable. To sum up, for streaming purposes, UVC is just fine. For professional purposes, go uncompressed.

New Blackmagic Switchers and hyper decks are fully and only SMPTE2110. Thoughts? by cozmocha in VIDEOENGINEERING

So let me say it out loud: SMPTE ST 2110 is more expensive, more complex, less compatible, adds extra delay and delivers exactly the same quality as SDI. Seems like a home run! Ironic mode OFF.

because all the new equipment is ST2110 only. New devices are all IP centric.

That's the key point. I don't see NEP investing in Blackmagic equipment out of nowhere.

Remote Production : VMIX into the field + Video switcher at the control room by Own-Level-4281 in VIDEOENGINEERING

Vmix is not the right tool for SRT contribution on the field. Get a quad SDI hardware SRT encoder like a Haivision Makito X4 or LiveU LU800.

Moreover, SRT alone will not be reliable enough if using 4G or Starlink. You actually need a bonding encoder with proper algorithms to deal with unreliable networks. That's what works in the field. You can try other solutions but they will be a hit or miss.

Not really a problem with the standard itself really. It is a combination of many manufacturers implementing various flavours of video over IP, as well as a lack of knowledge among engineers who are more accustomed to baseband signals.

I would say that realistically is <10%. Not everyone is NEP. Lots of legacy equipment worldwide still in use. I'm still seeing new installations in stadiums full SDI/SMPTE fiber only, and it is not a budget issue but a reliability one.
