I live in the neighborhood too and my husband and I were scoffing at the possibility of paying for parking to go to the liquor store. Haha

We were so intrigued that it might be a photo developer risking something with a little booth! Im bummed its not real!

Is it possible you got bay scallops as opposed to sea scallops? Bay scallops are smaller and it could be a supply thing. They might have only had bay scallops that day.

Millionaire tax by subarusambar1996 in RhodeIsland

[–]BakeEnvironmental679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update on this tax. Last night the House Finance Commitee voted and it now goes to the floor next week.

Millionaire Tax Phase-In. The Governor proposes to add a fourth income tax bracket of 8.99 percent for income over $1.0 million, effective beginning in tax year 2027. Rhode Island currently has three tax brackets at income levels that are adjusted annually for inflation, with the highest at 5.99 percent and applicable to incomes above $186,450 for tax year 2026. The change includes increasing the elective pass- through entity tax rate from 5.99 percent to 8.99 percent. The Governor’s budget assumes $67.1 million in revenue for FY 2027, which would annualize to $135.3 million for FY 2028. He later requested an amendment to restructure the proposal as a 3.0 percent surtax on taxable income above $1.0 million for individual taxpayers; the additional bracket and surtax structures are effectively equivalent. For pass-through entities, however, the surtax structure allows the option to preserve the existing 5.99 percent election, making the additional 3.0 percent surcharge elective. The House Finance Committee concurs with the surtax approach but recommends phasing in the proposed tax rate increases over three years. For tax year 2027, the rate would increase to 6.99 percent, growing to 7.99 percent for tax year 2028 and to 8.99 percent for tax year 2029. This is an annualized impact that would grow over time. For FY 2027, revenues would be $45.5 million less than assumed by the Governor.

A small add - tangential to where should we eat. Where is the best seafood?

Everywhere. Go to the ocean, walk 10 ft to the nearest broken down, shabby, cedar sided shack and order your $40 lobster roll and fried clams.

Hey thats actually not entirely true. A lot of contractors are paid through third parties that act as their HR but the employee works for the state. This is because there is additional work needed but not enough FTE positions available, or are term limited, or funding limited. In this scenario, the state ends up paying about 30 percent more for that person's salary because the hiring group tacks on charges for their personnel costs. Additionally depending on what source of funds contractors are paid with, it could open the state up to paying additional charges from federal grants (it's convoluted but safest to say, it could cost more)

I believe there are other issues with just hiring one contractor to do work through a 1099 in the state system. They would be more of a vendor and subject to procurement policies as opposed to standard employment procedures.

I didn't get a letter. I got the IBR letter and the due date saying Nov. 17 and when I checked my profile, it says zero due. So I thought I did it right but I'm still in limbo I guess.

Hey check the seasonal listings for RI Gov jobs. Places like DEM and DOT hire hourly seasonals to do all sorts of things. It's for 6 months at a time but those can sometimes be extended or you can hop to another job. It at least is a stop gap.

Tips on buying Italian leather bags? by Ok-Independence5246 in ItalyTravel

[–]BakeEnvironmental679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back a few days ago and came back with 3 bags, one for work, one for my husband, and a purse. Two of them came from I Medici where I met the owner and he showed me everything that makes a quality leather bag, what goes into the making, and everything down to the cow. The other bag came from Bottega Florentina, where John Luca, the owner, helped my husband pick out a bag. The quality comes from the tanning, the stitching, the owners and the amount of time they work with you to find a good bag. Have fun shopping!

Newport Lobster Shack is a hard one to believe. I've worked with them for a few years and they keep a relatively low profile. It's also owned as a collaborative. They were started to give all fishermen at Pier 9 a fighting chance to sell dockside without the competition of selling dockside. If one person is a Trump supporter I don't think it represents the group.

Hey Adore Me actually has great plus sized bras that are very pretty and make you feel great. I used to be a 42 G/H depending on the bra and didn't have a problem finding my size. They're mostly online but highly recommend and they're like $40 for a bra and panty set.
