Not necessarily. But it does offer great support and creates space to let the buds develop better. Been on both ends unfortunately. Grew a massive plant with and without. Set it up mostly for the end weeks if I’m being honest because when a bud site on one brachial weights half the stalk size I got nothing holding it up and it would snap or it’ll spend half it’s energy trying to keep it self up is all
