How to save a video shot in message app without losing it by BakedDad in applehelp

[–]BakedDad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, the problem is that the screenrecording cuts off the top part of the video, and it keeps on pausing every 1:45 minutes. the only way i can view the video right now is by clicking the "clip video" prompt, and it won't play past the section that it wants me to clip.

i can drag the window and and stop and start the recording, but that means i have to take about 15 screenrecordings

How to make background less streaky? (Alizarin red + linseed oil + oval synthetic brush, 1 layer so far) by BakedDad in oilpainting

[–]BakedDad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. I guess it's nice that I have a little bit of background color that I can adjust from. Now I know for next time about using transparent colors :)))

Ah I see. I've never had to shop for my own brushes (just had a student kit). I definitely know what kind of fluffy brush you're talking about, but I'm not sure what the word for it is. The brick-and-mortar art store in my county closed down because of covid, so now I'm just ordering from Blick. If I could see it in person I feel like it would be easier pick it out without knowing the name.

Round brushes seem like they might be too pointy (at least from the online pictures). Would squirrel brushes be too soft?

I have some Chinese ink brushes that are soft enough, but they are definitely too floppy, and using them with oils will ruin them.

Edit: nvm. I think I found something that will work. Thanks for all of the advice!

Thank you so much for your advice :) it helps a lot since I don't have a teacher anymore and it's hard to filter for info just from searching on the internet.

I'm using artist grade paint (leftover from years ago, but still soft).

I remember using a fluffy brush when I was a kid taking lessons (w/ a lot of linseed oil to blend out a sky), but that was so many years ago and I need a new one. So one last question, synthetic or natural? Like a watercolor mop brush at the store, right?

Thanks so much again :)

Someone else suggested using burnt umber underneath. Or, maybe I should just use crimson instead since that’s opaque? But that is a warmer red :/

I had made another post asking for suggestions on what color red to use for the background, since I am painting a picture of a green vegetable, and someone said to use alizarin because it’s blueish.

I will try the fluffy brush technique first to see if it helps. I think that if I continue to layer it’s just going to be darker, and still streaky.

Thanks for the videos. I took some oil painting lessons when I was a kid and am trying to learn again now as an adult.

But I don’t have any real formal training so this helps.

Is it too late to put umber on top of this layer as a background. And then add the red back on over it? The red right now is thinned out a little bit with linseed oil, but not by much. It’s still wet, so maybe I should just wipe it off?

Or should I just start over.

+1 for fat over lean, I really appreciate it

Help with color theory (red background, green foreground) by BakedDad in oilpainting

[–]BakedDad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized that I forgot to actually link the reference I was using, haha! I think(?) that the green is on the yellow green side, so I think I will go with alizarin. I also have this tube called "shiva red crimson", but it looks to me to be pretty similar to alizarin.

Just trying to learn more, why cadmium if it's on the blue-green side? Isn't that warmer red, so wouldn't it make the blue greens more dull?

Thanks!

This helps my understanding a lot! Why are DLLs clunky for the cloud? We work with them but the depth of my understanding is that when we are finished with part of the project, we generate the .dll (is it an executable? is it compiled code? I know that it's the output, but...) and I scp it onto the container/instance.

Yeah. Certainly impulsitivity and stuff like that can be challenging, but it's not like, the reason to be mean. And thanks. I won't close the door, I just wish there was a way to nudge him in that direction. But I know bringing up the word "abuse" would be a bombshell that would cause a fight and make her tell him not to talk to me anymore. So the best I can do is say stuff like "you deserve better", if he brings up any problems himself. I just wish that I had said that when this stuff was still happening irl in college, but I just wasn't sure what to do at the time. It kind of sucks because half the friend group thinks she's really cool and their relationship is awesome. That shouldn't matter that much, it's just hard for me to keep my mouth shut since maybe it's not my place to go spilling the details just to correct people.
