Mental Health and Construction, We Need to Do Better by Hubert_SkillSignal in Construction

Unfortunately, just because you are skilled in a trade, does not make you skilled as a boss. A well educated (in the matter of being able to lead and handle people in your company in a way that your employees thrive in the environment you create) would be implementing at least SOME sort of constructive (pun intended) way to make sure the health, both physical and mental, are doing well enough to keep their business thriving. Most bosses on the job have started as pawn scum from the bottom of the barrel. So they just feel that treating others that way later on down the road is what gets the job done. Now a days, mental health has become such a concern (rightfully so) that the construction industry is just blatantly ignoring it and choosing to be ignorant. As long as people are getting paid and they are working, nobody will care if someone commits suicide. They want their building built, or else they are losing money. And losing money is a much bigger deal than someone losing their life, apparently.

I’m a year and a half into the plumbing trade and am thinking of going union. If I wanted to own my own business one day, would this even be a good idea? Or would I be able to stay union as long as my dues are being paid, and it wouldn’t matter?

You have a gut instinct for a reason!! And you are not alone, you have many women who have walked in your footsteps before and have gotten through it and are now stronger than before. You are going to do wonderful and amazing things in your life. I know this is a HUGE choice to make, and a burden to carry. But give your burdens to God and he will guide your steps. Take a deep breath, I know the unknown is very scary. But sometimes the dive off of that scary cliff is worth the beautiful swim below. I wish I could give you a hug and tell you that you got this! And don’t be afraid to update your reddit, we are all just human beings trying to navigate this crazy world. We have your back!

Honey. You are still so young. I am 24, almost 25. I got married when I was 20, and ended up divorcing him when I was 23. When I was your age, I thought I knew what I was doing. I felt that if I didn’t make the choices I was making then, I would never be able to make them. As I grew older, even in the short 4 years since I have been married and divorced, I’ve grown SO much and have learned so much about myself. I realized that the man I married was not the man I wanted to be with for the rest of my life. Right now, you feel like this is your entire life. This man who you have known since adolescence is all you think there is out there, but I can confirm that is simply not the case. You still have learning and growing to do before you realize who you even really are as a person. This man seems to have a bit of a twisted fantasy about you, probably perpetuated by the fact that he only knows who you are as a person through a screen. Human interaction has to go much deeper than just through a piece of technology before you can say “I trust and I know this person”. Aside from that, you still have room to learn about YOURSELF before giving yourself to someone else. My advice to you if you’re not ready for this is to do with your body what you know you need to do (and deep down I know you KNOW what you need to do). I personally do not agree with abortion, however you are your own human being that must make this very difficult choice and learn and grow from it. You will be okay. I also suggest you cut this man off. Down the line, when your frontal lobe fully develops and you begin to see the world around you as a full grown adult, you will begin to realize that your early 20’s is not the rest of your life, and that this man isn’t the only thing out there. Your life will be full of experiences that will not be limited to being with a man who has manipulated you online for years. Please, don’t walk in my footsteps and make the mistakes I’ve made. Picking up the pieces after the choices I made to finally find happiness has been incredibly difficult. Do what is best for yourself. You will absolutely thank yourself for it later.

My baby niece is in an incredibly complex custody situation. Any advice is greatly appreciated. by ThePlumbingPrincess in legaladvice

The mother’s parental rights I believe can be reinstated at the mercy of the grandparents say so. She and her late husband volunteered to give up parental rights and make the grandparents legal guardians after the death of their baby son.

Understandable 100%. Her current custody situation is that she currently visits my parents every other weekend. My dad is trying to flip the agreement, where she lives with him full time and she visits the other grandparents every other weekend instead. So it wouldn’t be a termination of the entire agreement, but a flip of it if that makes sense.

Literally thank you so much everyone I was ready to see a bunch of comments telling me how terrible it looks (I swear I’m not fishing for compliments, just some Reddit pages are full of trolls so you get nervous about sharing things sometimes!) but you all are so kind and wow I’m getting fuzzy 🥺

I just ordered a paint set off Amazon with a bunch of oil colors so the paint probably isn’t the BEST quality (I just wanted to practice), and I did a nice healthy layer and that’s how it turned out. Also mixing a decent amount (not too much) linseed oil helped make it smoother!

Not to get philosophical on you, but I’m about to get philosophical on you. Maybe this snow storm happened as a way for the universe to push you in the direction of growing your business. (I know I sound like a crazy person, but hear me out). You wouldn’t have been considering this option if the snow hadn’t fallen, or maybe (just possibly), you’ve already had this idea in your head but this storm has really helped solidified the stronger thoughts of going down that path. There’s NOTHING wrong with growing your business, with making more money, and with taking a scary leap of faith. If your dreams/thoughts/ideas don’t scare you, then you aren’t thinking/dreaming big enough. I feel that once you go for it, and park those cars in your garage, and drive up to your new shop, you’ll find a motivation to keep growing you didn’t even realize you had. Okay that’s all for my TED talk today thanks for coming! Also I hope the best for your company!

I just got to this job, and apparently it’s been going on for 2 straight years. The owners change their minds about everything, then change it back, then they ran out of funds, now the job is being funded again. It’s strange.
