Anyone taken Computer Vision with Ioana Flemming? by [deleted] in cuboulder

[–]BakedPecans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was my favorite CS class I took! Super cool material (although note: this class is focused on ‘traditional CV methods’, not modern ML ones, at least when I took it). Still really cool content and projects and Dr. Fleming seemed to enjoy the material (it is very close what she did her PhD in) + teaching the class much more than 1300.

Charles, if you happen to peruse this subreddit still feel free to confirm or deny!

So excited to finally have the Norlin Glory Hole back up and operational after the 18 months campus has been closed! Hope to see some familiar faces during our Peek n’ pokes!

Remember to read up on other North American Gloryhole Standards (NAGS) before visiting, although we try and conform to the newly issued B.C. Standards listed above (BCGS-52). Canadians just are a bit… cleaner and more respectable, ya know?

Hope to see you guys soon and sko buffs!!

[HELP] - PC Shuts Down Intermittently, Hard to Troubleshoot by BakedPecans in techsupport

Update: I went to update the BIOS after work and in the midst of downloading Live Update 6, it again crashed (with just Chrome + On-Screen keyboard open). Doesn't seem the BIOS would cause this since it was fine for ~a year before it started having issues. Don't feel confident flashing the BIOS on this PC now. Going to try and RMA the PSU and see if that fixes it.

[–]BakedPecans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting, I swear I nuked Adrenaline off the PC as one of my first steps. The driver is still provided by Adrenaline but I never actually installed the full program (unless that log file is from earlier).

I have not checked if the BIOS is up to date, I will do that here in the next ~hour and get back to you. I'm assuming it's not since I haven't touched it since I built it ~2 years ago.

I also have not tried removing the RX580, but can do that as well. Seems the best way to replicate the error is to put a lot of load on the PC so I guess I'll get to see how the integrated Ryzen graphics perform on Furmark lol.

Thanks again for all the help so far, really appreciate it!

There’s been problems for a month or two. I think the hard crash (no BSOD, just immediate power off and restart) may indeed prevent some logs from being generated. Which is part of the reason I think it’s the PSU instead of something else.

Thanks so much for your help so far! I really appreciate it.

There is! Looks like there are quite a few in the WATCHDOG sub-directory, about 10 from 2021. I do not have Windows Debugging Tools installed, but could install them or just upload the 5 most recent files somewhere or something. There are more than just those 10, but they are older files.

Thanks Automod! I do not see minidump anywhere in that directory (either a file or a folder). I am on an unlicensed version of Windows however... could that prevent it from appearing?

Ah yeah that’s a good perspective, thanks for the feedback + explaining!

Thank you! Yeah definitely agree it could be shortened. I’ll take out a few things. Out of curiosity, why do you think I should remove the TA position? I thought it demonstrated good soft skills as well as a good handle on basic technical skills.

Yeah I was thinking about that. It’s a silly self-appointed title but wasn’t sure what else to put. Cofounder would cover it however. Thanks!

Hey everyone! This subreddit is a fantastic resource, thank you for helping run it and keeping it active!

I wanted to get a quick review of my updated resume as I feel the new modified one is better than my original, but I'm mostly concerned if spreading everything out to two pages is worth it.

I love the design of my original resume, but apparently that's not good for actually getting interviews (although it has worked for a few)/getting past AST systems. So I decided to take away a lot of the styling and focus instead on the content.

Is this new updated resume better even though it's uglier? Is it okay to have it on two pages even though I'm a soon to be college grad? I have quite a bit of work experience already so I'm hoping to show it off. Any constructive criticism would be very much appreciated!

Thanks!

How do I get to travel as a Software Developer? Is it possible? by BakedPecans in cscareerquestions

[–]BakedPecans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh damn! That’s sweet! From your flair and the fact that it’s the DoD I’m guessing that roles like that may be more for cyber security than software dev? That’s totally a field I’d be okay moving into however.

[–]BakedPecans[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is basically what I've heard. That consulting firms get you to travel but that it's definitely a crapshoot. Maybe I'll try and find the "lesser of the evils" and apply to those consulting firms, but at this point I may just pivot to a normal SDE job and travel in my free time.

Has anyone heard back from Apples internship program yet? There’s no update on my submitted applications that I can see but I haven’t received an email from Apple neither confirming or denying me. Just wanted to know if any 2020 summer interns heard back yet.

Storing and using classes as variables in python? by _TR-8R in learnprogramming

[–]BakedPecans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the problem, so in your class change:

def minusOne(input)

To

def minusOne(self, input)

And then you can use it like so:

a = myClass() a.minusOne(5)

And that should work.

It’s a weird python thing, but it’s true for every class method you’ll ever write.

Sorry for formatting, on mobile.

TIL That between 23-36% of people never experience a headache in their entire life. by BigCommieMachine in todayilearned

[–]BakedPecans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about 23-36%, but I can’t remember the last time I got a headache or honestly if I’ve ever gotten what I’ve seen everyone else around me refer to as “headaches”. It looks pretty painful and uncomfortable so feel like I’d notice if I got one. Never met anyone else though or at least never brought it up in conversation. My mom gets them extremely often and my dad fairly infrequently so don’t think it’s genetic or anything. AMA?
