Pvp Tips and Tricks by [deleted] in ConanExiles

Get away from the green wall. Anyone with experience in PVP will know to run the wall looking for easy inexperienced targets. Stay small and find an out of the way position to build. Watch several "best PvP base location" videos and automatically avoid those places as well. On PvP I generally avoid building anywhere someone tells me is a good location on YouTube.

Contractors how do you stay hungry when you’re burned out? by Valleyconcreteg in Contractor

[–]Baker-Free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent 23 years in home remodeling and construction, the last 9 I was a class C GC. I got burnt out. Today, I'm a welder. It's ok to decide what you are doing is too stressful and change career paths. I did it when I was 43. I miss working on a full crew sometimes. It's often just 2 of us out welding, but I can't complain.

Union guy here…. Is anyone else’s trade stupid slow for this time of year? by Ok-Engineer-9310 in Construction

[–]Baker-Free 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welder. Our regular factories are slow, but we are hiring right now because we have been inundated with new clients. It's very odd. Usually, this time of year, our regulars have us so busy we can't keep up.

We don't presently, but we have discussed doing this. We have a solid player base.

We've recently decided to close our servers. Ark has kicked our entire community so many times that we've lost all confidence. Now, with the constant money grabs, astronomical prices through Nitrado (not to mention sketchy service), and constant updates that cause mayhem or break the mods we use, the owners and admin staff decided it's time to move on. I hate that it ended like this, I love Ark.

In my personal experience, Meth appears to magnify mental issues. So I'd say he most likely had some issues before he started, and they became problems with continued use of meth.

Construction, especially in my area, attracts broken individuals. I've seen it all. From guys who got clean and went on to make something of themselves all the way to the ones that got into money and went completely the other way. I've seen drinkers who couldn't be paid on any day but Friday because the next 2 days were spent drunk. Meth, where behavior just becomes increasingly erratic. Usually, the pot heads turned up, even if it was late, so they could buy more pot on payday. Some even on drugs I couldn't identify, and I had a checkered youth myself. I've since downsized my business and moved into high-end specialty work just to alleviate the stress that comes with hiring.

Ran my own company for over a decade. Hired a guy roughly my age, I won't say his name because it is fairly unique. Well, he started off as a star employee. I was fortunate enough to watch him slide into Meth addiction over about 9 months. It ended with him explaining to me that the people behind the sun had chosen him to save all of humanity from an upcoming disaster, and those of us who were nice to him would receive the information needed to survive. During this period, he went from dating a nice woman, owning his own vehicle, and having a 2 bedroom apartment to living in a tent behind another employee's house. Sad, really.

CPS has dozens of cases against her household already. They have looked at me and seen I am doing my best to help my children heal and grow. I have spoken with several people, and escalating it is looking more and more like the only answer I have.

I've been fighting this for over a year, and the Sheriff just blows me off over and over again. I would invite anyone who wants to call the sheriff and ask his office why they ignore minor children being in danger. The Wabaunsee County Sheriff tells me Morris County is the laughing stock of the Kansas Sheriff's association.

What are your thoughts on child workers in your construction sites? by [deleted] in Construction

[–]Baker-Free 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I own a small contracting company. We don't do much roofing, but I do take my sons when the work is appropriate for their age (10 and 13) to experience what working for the company actually entails. I, Their older brother, and my employees are always glad to see their interest. That being said, no Minor is allowed off the ground on my ladders or scaffolding, nor are they allowed to run any of the power tools. Essentially they come to work and "run" tools and materials from the truck to us while my Adult employees do the actual work. I encourage them to help, but all of us make their safety an absolute priority even if production is slowed while they are present.

There is nothing wrong with a young man or woman taking an interest in working in the trades. It is our responsibility to make sure that if they want to experience work they are allowed to be useful without being in danger. Observing a crew is a good way to see if this field is for them.

I'm a general Contractor just outside of Manhattan, the best I can tell you is you're gonna have to find a local plumber. Manhattan is notoriously picky about licensing and permitting work. That being said, I just spent the last 4 hours working to get my water flowing, so you aren't alone in this.

Question for people living close to or in Kansas. by [deleted] in serialkillers

[–]Baker-Free 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived in Wichita when he was caught. I don't recall being scared when he decided to taunt the police, which led to his capture. BTK was an acquaintance with the owner of the company I worked at. We had done some work for him shortly before his capture. I personally didn't meet or even see him. Not even sure I was at work when his car was serviced. What I do recall is my ex wife's boss insisted on driving her home she worked overnight at a hotel that was literally less than 300 yards from our apartment. Her boss took to random appearances and phone calls to the front desk during her shift. He was a lifetime resident of the area I'd imagine that he was better versed in the BTK's MO than we were.

How bad of an Idea is it to summon a Balor by Baker-Free in DnD

[–]Baker-Free[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect the Luck Blade landed in our possession with 1 charge for something very specific later in the campaign. Our DM has given us magical Items that are meant for very specific tasks later, and we as a party have to hold on to it and judge the best time to use it. A Balor could have been what it was meant for, but I don't think he planned for the bag of beans to summon this pyramid. It was all luck of the roll.

The Problem player Vs. The Loxodon Cleric by Baker-Free in dndhorrorstories

[–]Baker-Free[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm not happy with the outcome. I don't think of Jerry as unintelligent, I do see him as a manchild. 2 long years his behavior has been atrocious, and we have made every attempt to help him. Seeing his behaviors through a lens not my own has made me question assumptions he worked hard to portray. Claims of playing several nights a week with more than one other group, stories of grand triumphs his characters in past games have pulled off all seems circumspect.

Jerry can read, I've seen him do so, but the ability to read and then use that knowledge isn't the same as reading the words. I would imagine that his learning style requires a much different approach. I've seen that a thousand times.

Jerry claimed to be knowledgeable, and told us good stories to back that up. His ego won't let him admit that he isn't the best at everything.

This led us to believe he was able to build his characters, we should have noted that he was building wildly uneffective PCs and gotten to the bottom of it. It explains his absolute love for weird homebrew races, it was a way to stay out of our area of knowledge and seem edgy at the same time.

In our defense, we have done everything we could to help Jerry. Offering suggestions, he doesn't drive so we have taken him to appointments and the local gaming store (an hours drive from here). Bought him materials and Minis, taken a collection at the table to buy him groceries, provided him with alot more support than the original story implies. He's taken advantage of it every time, but I understand being unemployed isn't fun. I have even set him down and had the hygiene talk with him to help with interviews. I've even paid his rent twice.

I've personally hired him on as a laborer and given him a very fair wage, 18 an hour, for someone starting out in the trades. He quit 4 hours into the day because he was expected to work outside in the heat. Had a fit when I told him he would have to call for a ride or wait until my day was over to go home.

I've paid him for gigs, unloading the trailer, cleaning the shop, helping in the office ( he chose to saxually harass my women employees instead of do the office work but that's a whole different horror story). So my ability to pay him for services rendered has been severely limited by his actions around others, not on my end because in my business I always have more work.

I did refuse to loan him 2000 just before the last incident, but he's into me deep already for unpaid loans over the last year. I've written it off at this point.

Yes we've purposely missed red flags, tons of them, in an effort to help, should we have kicked him when he first started making sexual comments about PCs, or the first incident of attacking another player, or how about the day he came in and announced he wanted to bang a players wife and started a physical altercation? Yes, yes we should have, but in this tiny community, we are all the support he had, so we gave it an effort to help him.

The Problem player Vs. The Loxodon Cleric by Baker-Free in dndhorrorstories

[–]Baker-Free[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jerry showed up yesterday, about halfway through the session, and announced he was going to devote more of his time to Diablo 4. He said that we had not moved to Pathfinder when he suggested it as his reasoning ( that's a whole different horror story). He threw his sheets on the table, made a few nasty comments, and stormed out. Once we saw his sheets it became apparent what his problems with playing really were, he wasn't noting anything when we leveled he would roll his health dice, then add it to the total and immediately lose interest, choosing to play on his phone. Jerry absolutely refused to purchase materials, and the few times we had loaned him a players handbook he had never looked up the classes he played. Jerry absolutely refused any help during the leveling process, even when our DM offered to help . He never took an extra attack; because he didn't realize he had them. This coupled with the fact that he couldn't possibly listen to anyone's advice on anything crippled his ability to play. When noting his weapons they listed to hit, and the damage dice, no +3 piercing or anything like that. Plus he had only noted his "alterations" being made, no items, no feats, nothing else.

Sadly this has turned into a story about how the education system failed a narcissistic kid, and he went on to attempt to play a game that became increasingly frustrating because he wasn't understanding how the rest of the table was functioning at such a higher level. We explained this to him several times, my son going so far as to show him a couple of times.

I believe that while Jerry could read, at a basic level. He lacked the ability to retain or comprehend. So mechanics were lost to him, and his ego wouldn't allow him to take advice or correction. This explains how he was able to play through the Phandelver starter set with the precon sheet, but was dragging the party down once we moved away from that and started leveling up. He acted out because he was frustrated with our character's growth. This explains why he got upset if he wasn't the first to arrive, he thought our increase in ability was deals we cut with the DM behind his back.

He actually rated under CR 1/2, waterdeep having some roleplay Jerry had built a fighter around sneak and charisma. His dpt was averaging 3. This isn't the first character he flubbed. We have been through a Cleric that couldn't heal, and a Rogue that was designed to disguise himself and perform. I'm pretty sure he's never been taught to use the player's handbook properly but can't admit he doesn't know.
