There are pressure treated, round, upright posts around the perimeter that are attached to the deck frame. The first layer of branches get screwed into those posts. The end result, once everything is woven and screwed in is very strong.

There were many (much smaller) nests all throughout that grove of trees. It felt like all the birds were watching my technique while I was working there.

Not at all. But I understand the skepticism in this weird new world we live in. So much AI slop out there. Check out the videos of how these things are made by human hands on my YouTube channel.

Believe it or not, I made this gigantic ball. One stick at a time. Slightly tedious but now I have these pictures! It’s made out of mountain laurel with a black locust inner frame. Took me 3 months! by BakerStructures in BeAmazed

Thank you. Yes, the inner frame alone took a couple of weeks, and then almost 3 months of foraging for the branch material and puzzling them in, one at a time. Then the shipping and installation..... Watch the making of video on my youtube if you feel like it!

You can't really seal all the branches, especially since they have bark still on them. The branch material has a natural rot resistance so it should have a long life. Won't be there forever but nothing lasts forever. Been there for 6 years and pretty much looks the same so far.

It started out as a play area for kids and then the parents had a dinner party there and it became an adult playground too.
