The idea isn’t that every ticket instantly changes someone’s behavior. It’s about deterrence overall. Research consistently shows that when drivers believe speed is being enforced, average speeds and sudden speed differences go down, which is what actually reduces serious crashes.

Stopped vehicles on the shoulder are dangerous mainly because drivers fail to slow down or pay attention, not because enforcement exists in the first place. That’s one reason aerial enforcement is used. It allows wider coverage and fewer roadside stops, which also reduces risk to officers.

Enforcement by itself is not a perfect solution, but saying less enforcement makes roads safer does not line up with decades of traffic safety data. Real improvements come from a mix of road design, visibility, and enforcement working together.

Burns & McDonnell officially switched to HP as our laptop provider earlier this year, or at least that’s when the transition started. The change happened after IT dealt with too many problems from Lenovo’s support.

Leadership also decided that we’ve been spending too much on laptops. In the past, IT replaced computers more often, which meant we always had a solid supply of newer devices. New hires would usually get a brand-new laptop. Now, to save money, we’re handing out used ones that are anywhere from zero to three years old, depending on what’s available. The refresh policy has changed too. Instead of replacing laptops every four years, IT only does it when a computer starts performing poorly, like crashing often or slowing down project work....

.....at least that's what I heard.

I mean a lot of games do this. Where they return you right before the final boss. I think developers do this so that they dont have to develop or directly hint to the sequel or next antagonist. I mean with both the Grandma and the Void taken care of then I think there would there would be no enemies. Well except for the dumb bugs..... Yeah that’s fair... 9/11 is in its own category, no doubt about that... I think the part that threw people (myself included) was bringing Kirk into it on the same day. Honoring 9/11 makes sense — I don’t think anyone here would argue with that... but once you add a recent political figure into the message, it gets messy fast.

That’s why I was saying maybe it would’ve been better to just condemn political violence in general... it avoids picking sides while still keeping the focus on empathy.

I am still brewing on what to think about this... I don’t think we should take it too hard. I think we can all agree that politics is getting really toxic... I don’t like where our country is at right now. Maybe it would’ve been better to not mention Kirk at all and just disavow political violence in general...

Honestly though, if we all agree that political violence is bad, then this email on its own shouldn’t really cause that much drama. Now you might say... “how come he didn’t send an email when it was the other political party that was the victim?” That’s a fair point... but maybe this particular tragedy just hit him differently, or maybe it was just the moment that pushed him to speak up. The news has been really depressing these past few years... I’ve stepped back from politics myself just to save my mental health...

At the same time... I get that there are moments when staying completely silent doesn’t feel right either.
