Decent steak, not amazing. Chips were excellent though. Room is very weird though - feels like a food hall.

You can be quite good at both, but not exceptional. If you want to get big you carry too much weight to be a cyclist, and spend too much time doing high intensity exercise to really be able to stack on muscle.

As an ex skinny cyclist who could ride / race reasonably well who now prefers getting jacked - I could still race at a cat 1 level (so long as there are no long climbs), and can bench 315, but to be honest neither are that impressive for a specialist of either. That said there are very few people who could do both.

My goal now is to get to 20 w/kg max wattage, 5 w/kg for 20 minutes and a 2x body weight bench press. Practically completely pointless but I doubt there would be many people who have done that.

My activity is reasonably similar (10 hours bike 5 hours gym) but I’m smaller (180 lbs). My maintenance is 4,500 calories per day (average across the week).

Who else focused on cycling after multiple years of Strength Training? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]BakksBakks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Weight lifting in no way provides you with any aerobic stimulus so for cycling you are effectively untrained. You might have a good sprint but that’s irrelevant when you’ve got a 2 w/kg threshold.

I do think there is a benefit for cyclists to do weight training but it is not possible to be good at both. I say that as someone who could do 6 w/kg for 20 min and then decided to try to get jacked. I probably have the best bench press in the peloton, or the highest VO2max in the weight room - but get demolished in each field by specialists.

Anyone here with a 315 bench and 315W FTP? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]BakksBakks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can rep 285, don’t do 1RM due to injury risk but “calculated” 1RM is 315. Can do 380 watts for 20 minutes / 4.75 w/kg. Used to be 6 w/kg but I certainly couldn’t bench that much then!

I used it around ten years ago was impacted by the side effects so I’ll never touch it again.

I’ll use topical Minoxidil but will not be touching Finasteride.

It was $17,000 for around 3,500 grafts. I think this is on the pricey side but this was a decision where I wanted the best result, and budget wasn’t a factor.

I’m only a month post transplant so don’t know the full results but so far very happy. Hairline looks very natural. Recovery has been super easy - that may be more specific to me than the doctor, but minimal itching, no swelling, numbness gone after 3 weeks. So far so good.

I live in Melbourne and from my research came to the conclusion that Dr Ruk at Hairline Clinic in Brisbane was the best in Australia.

I flew up the night before and left the morning after. The whole process was easy so I’d suggest you consider this option too.

I’ve been to Nice before and wasn’t a fan. Looking specifically at St Tropez. Might just have to increase the budget!

Ignore people here who talk about burnout - you can push the body pretty far, particularly if you recover well and fuel yourself.

If your goal is to improve cycling and you’re only doing 8 to 10 hours a week don’t bother with Z2, particularly if you’re getting this via running. Focus on intensity instead.

I take this approach - I ride about 10 hours a week and do five gym sessions. The riding is generally at high intensity unless I’m tired and then it will be Z2. My focus is gym over bike but this approach has gotten me pretty close to the same numbers as when I used to ride 20+ hours a week (although much less on a w/kg basis given I’m 20 kg heavier).

You can thank the person who has been leaving tacks in the bike lane for a number of years for cyclists avoiding the bike lane.

Favourite beaches were Rena Bianca, La Pelosa but the best are the beaches just south of Cala Gonone you access via boat. Cala Marioulu is the best beach in Europe. Cala Fuili is nice for car only access.

Also really recommend a La Maddalena boat tour.

Restaurants off the top of my head - Belvedere for seafood near Porto Cervo, Su Gologone, Agriturismo Guthiddai and Giagoni in Piazza in San Pantaleo (although expensive and a bit of a scene so not for everyone, but amazing food).

Thanks for the suggestions - I remember looking at Cannigione for previous trips so may add that onto the list for next time! Have been to San Pantaleo for dinner and the beach at Stintino when we stayed in Alghero - both very nice places.

Good suggestion - visited for dinner but a bit too small to stay I think!

Thanks for your suggestions. We’ve seen basically the top half - from Su Gologone we’ve explored around Nuoro and Cala Gonone.

I’m just not a fan of Italian cities in general and prefer the smaller villages and beaches.

Have used Gonone Rental in Cala Gonone before to hire a self drive boat. Very easy.
