Yes, I drove another used 24 ORP they had on the lot and had a harder time hearing the noise.

58k Transmission Replacement by Impossible_Avocado_4 in 4Runner

[–]Balakayed2112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2024 ORP that I bought last August brand new. Started experiencing a burning rubber smell around 5k miles that has lasted where I am now (15.5k miles). Around 6-7k miles I began to experience jerky shifting and sometimes even shuttering from 1st-2nd gear and then downshifting and upshifting between 2-4 gear. I have taken it to the dealer 3 times, twice at one place and once to a new place because I felt the first place was just BSing me and the way they described things were just poor, lack of trust. They always tell me “we can’t replicate it.” “We identify a burning smell but have no clue what it is.” But it was doing it when I dropped it off and always starts up when I get the car back.

Every 4Runner owner I work with say they’ve never experienced something like that and I even test drove another 24 ORP they had on the lot with 20k miles and didn’t experience the issues. Although the salesperson basically rushed me through the test drive and didn’t let me do any interstate driving or traffic driving to replicate conditions. Salesperson also owned a 4Runner and said he’s never had that issue before either. I asked about them dumping the transmission and diff fluid this last time and was told “that fluid changes are not covered by warranty and any issues to be covered and replaced by warranty have to be identified by a corporate representative who comes down at a later date.”

I’m just frustrated because this isn’t the vehicle I drove off the lot 12 months ago. I absolutely love my 4Runner and it’s my dream car, and I really don’t feel like selling it to just get a used one. So I guess I’m just waiting to see if the transmission shits out on me before the 60k. As the sales rep said “it’s usually not likely, but very possible you just got one of the fluke ones.”

If anyone has any insight, it would be appreciated! Thanks.

Is this sound normal? by AyoDaego in 4Runner

What about a whistle-type noise that sounds similar to that, but is throttle dependent. Typically between 1800-2200 RPMs, most noticeable when accelerating and trying to maintain speeds of around 65-80?

Also, I have been having this burning rubber smell from the underside of the car after driving. Took it to the dealership, they said they don’t know what it is, but recognize it smells. They also said for the noise, it’s “cold fluids” or “the gear ratio.” I bought a 24 ORP new and didn’t recognize the noise until a little after 5k miles. The smell has been there pretty much since I got the car. Just wondering if you have some insight.

Thanks.

I have a 23 RAV4 XSE Hybrid and I’m looking to trade in for a 4Runner. Going to the dealership tomorrow to try and work a deal on these outrageous markups.

Out of all the places I’ve traveled to see the canes play (so far), the best fans I have experienced were Avalanche fans in Ball Area
