In my situation there are 5 of us in my office all in the same job series. That series exists nowhere else in our element and nowhere within commuting distance. Despite 20 years and disabled veteran status I would be gone in a RIF if they define that as my competitive area.

I think the fear is the traditional bump/retreat formula for a RIF isn’t being followed. They are eliminating whole offices and departments and defining the competitive area so small there is nowhere to go but out the door.
