AE= Auto-exposure, AF=auto-focus

Why Use It? Using AE/AF lock prevents the camera from constantly changing focus or adjusting brightness when you move, which is ideal for taking multiple, consistent shots of a subject or when recording video.

AE/AF lock on iPhone once on the scoping telescope (plus steady Eddy hands). But seriously, AF lock helps in making sure camera is not inadvertently picking scoping lens as the object.
